Hebrews 13:4 Give honor to marriage, and remain faithful to one another in marriage ( the bed is undefiled).
1. We honor marriage when we honor Gods design for marriage.
Genesis 2:18 (ESV). Then the LORD God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.”
1 Peter 3:7 (NLT) but she is your equal partner in God’s gift of new life.
Gen 2:24-25 Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. 25And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed.
Jesus confirms Gods original design for marriage.
Matthew 19:4–6 (NLT)“Haven’t you read the Scriptures?” Jesus replied. “They record that from the beginning ‘God made them male and female.’ 5And he said, ‘This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.’ 6Since they are no longer two but one, let no one split apart what God has joined together.”
Paul confirms Gods design for marriage.
Ephesians 5:31–33 (NLT)As the Scriptures say, “A man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.” 32This is a great mystery, but it is an illustration of the way Christ and the church are one.
2. We honor marriage when we build on Gods design.
We seek the Lord
We live as best friends.
We pursue godly romance.
Hebrews 13:4 (ESV) Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous.
