I was recently joined for a very special Legends With Bevo live on Facebook by the human juggernaut of getting it all done and cheering on the green and gold, Lisa Curry AO MBE. Married to Australia’s most well-known Elvis Presley impersonator, Mark Tabone, the face of online wellness, Happy Healthy You, motivational speaker, author, lover of chocolate, mother of Australian Ironman, Jett Kenny, grandmother of three and keeper of all the Olympic village stories, Lisa Curry AO MBE is nothing short of a legend in Australian sport and constant fixture of swimming for over forty years. Between her fangirl moments watching the Paris 2024 Olympics, Lisa reflects on her journey as an elite athlete. Starting in swimming as a twelve-year-old and ending in the late 90’s as a surf boat rower. Lisa reveals the obstacles life has thrown at her and some of the skills she has honed to overcome adversity. Starting with her paying no attention to the naysayers, what it took to make a return to professional swimming as a thirty-year-old mother of two young children to her current battle getting into shape after surgery. Lisa looks at our changing attitudes on sportsmanship, the joy of watching competition and poses the question, do you have to win a medal to be a champion?
