As the violence begins to subside in Taney County, it ramped up in neighboring Douglas and Christian counties. The Baldknobbers in those counties wear terrifying masks during nighttime raids on their perceived enemies. But after a pair of murders in front of multiple witnesses, a county sheriff succeeds in stopping the vigilante leaders, and the vigilante movement finally collapses.
