K-Pop Dreaming: Unveiling the Journey with Vivian Yoon
Manage episode 364558399 series 1318738
We talk to Vivian Yoon–the host of K-pop Dreaming–to discuss how the show came together from the perspective of a Korean American writer-performer from Los Angeles.
K-Pop Dreaming is a podcast about the rise and history of K-pop in the United States, as told from the point-of-view of the Korean diaspora in Los Angeles. Host Vivian Yoon takes listeners on a journey from K-pop’s origins in Korean trot music and American presence in post-war South Korea to the 1992 LA Uprising and the booming global popularity of K-pop in the present day, all juxtaposed against Yoon’s own coming-of-age as a second generation immigrant in Los Angeles, struggling to fit in and come to terms with her own identity.
About Vivian:
Vivian Yoon is a 2.5 generation Korean American writer and performer from Koreatown, Los Angeles. Her background is in improvisation and sketch comedy, and she performs weekly at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater on Harold Night. Vivian also has experience in tech, virtual production, and XR. In 2021 she co-wrote and voice acted in a short created by Aaron Sims Creative and Epic Games called "The Eye: Calanthek", and received an Epic MegaGrant for an undisclosed project involving virtual production
