Today, G has the chance to get real with Johnathon Tews, the youth pastor from his own church, Open Door Fellowship. As you listen, you'll hear how the conversation gets very real, very fast - the product of two men who know each other and are in the same work of ministering to students, invested in the same community of believers. This Kingdom Culture Conversation starts with practical advices...some wisdom...some insight. Then, BOOM. It gets real. Really good. Really candid. And, you really, really need to hear it. Viral. Really? Yes, really. This past Christmas season, I Witness, the podcast-based audio drama featuring the voices of Northwest Christian students and staff, entered the Apple Podcasts charts in the top 200 for all podcasts and broke into the top 50 "Arts" podcast charts. Today, we have the chance to sit with both I Witness newbies and returning vets to discuss how season 2 played out. The return of Miles and Quinn. The introduction of new explorers to the Elysium. And, a cliff hanger! As well, the group looks forward to Season 3 - "I Witness - Between Two Worlds" - which will debut on April 23rd. "Community engagement" might be bit of an understatement. Sean and Theresa lead the charge at St. Vincent de Paul - one of the nation's premiere ministries working to minister to the poor and homeless - in terms of pulling volunteers and donors into the mission. Their job titles each involve the words "community engagement". But, those simple and benign words belie the fact that their joint impact within the issue perplexing most of our nation might be unparalleled. But, how did they wind up on this journey and within these positions? Their stories are stirring...and may very well stir the hearts of any aspiring high school students that are also seeking God's direction... The City of Joy Christian School in Rwanda is an anomaly. Set in rural Africa, within a country ravaged by genocide, and serving students with little or no resources, you would not expect what is, in fact, happening. Students are thriving, learning, and growing. Scores on national tests are not just exceeding the average, they are running in the top 5% of all Rwandan students. So what is happening? Why is Rwanda's Secretary of Education visiting the campus and investigating their outstanding outcomes? As you will hear in today's Kingdom Culture Conversation with Dawna Underwood and Teri Beckner, the answer is simple. The Gospel. The Gospel as revealed in the vehicle of Christian education. I'm nearly certain that today's Kingdom Culture Conversation is the first conversation we have published that includes the word "sexiness". Uh-oh? Woops? Did we miss an edit? No. In today's Kingdom Culture Conversation, Pure Heart's Dondi Rodriguez has an epic mic drop moment in which he powerfully and memorably illustrates a Christian's call to reach their neighbor. He also makes two or three powerful points regarding Psalm 23. Again, mic dropping moments. So, where does the "sexiness" come in? You're going to have to listen to find out... Well, it happened. The second season of Northwest Christian's student-led, podcast-based audio drama "I Witness" went viral. Again. The first season ("The Lazarus Project") was published in April 2024 and was a viral sensation in its own right. But the second season ("Silent Night"), released over four consecutive weeks in December 2024, went gloriously viral. Featured by Apple podcasts as part of the lead-off podcast promotional page for podcasts in the "Arts" genre, I Witness spanned the globe and became one of the top 50 Arts podcasts on Apple podcasts. The heart and mind behind I Witness is Chris Zimmerman, also the founder of Red Five Media. Zimmerman uses students to craft both audio dramas as well as student-featuring short films as part of Northwest Christian's "NXNW Film Festival" fine arts initiative. Today, we have the chance to hear from Zimmerman, to understand his story, and better understand what motivates a young man that is using his gifts and talents to transformational effect within the lives of students. Each year at Northwest Christian, the first chapel of December is an all-school chapel to celebrate Christmas. It's a tremendous amount of fun and a wonderful tradition - one of just two times per year that the entire pre-K through 12th grade community gathers together in the Don Sanderson Gymnasium. Among the many traditions -- some very noisy and boisterous, others more reverent and worshipful -- one of the favorites is the opportunity for seniors to reflects on different aspects of the Christmas season. This year, December 2024, those three seniors reflected on the meaning behind the three gifts brought to Jesus and His family. In today's Kingdom Culture Conversation, Geoff and G sit with those seniors and further explore their reflections. To enjoy a video of the Christmas 2024 chapel, please follow this link. Northwest Christian School's "Build Here, Build There" campus improvement campaign is unlike most any other capital campaign. In keeping with its mission to teach Biblical worldview to its students, the BHBT effort invests time and resources into ministries outside the school in an effort to provide ministry opportunities to young people. That part of the plan will not change. However, as Mike Waypa discusses today, there are aspects of the plan that are changing...and it is time to get excited... To call Nick Reynoso's testimony "powerful" would be an understatement to be sure. But today, we have the amazing opportunity to hear how a soldier in the U.S. Army experienced the power of the Gospel, saw it transform his life, and then dove head first into ministry - literally ministry in the trenches. As a chaplain in the U.S. Army Reserve, Nick has the opportunity to meet soldiers where they are at and to convey that same power that he experienced to them...
