In today’s podcast, which is the second in a four-part miniseries of podcasts about Britain's talented Art Departments, Mark talks to this year’s winners of THE LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD SUPPORTED BY WARNER BROS. STUDIOS LEAVESDEN. The award honours Art Department members who have made a significant creative mark in their work, benefitting the industry as a whole. This year there are two recipients of the award. First up, Mark talks to Emily Stillman, Senior Vice President of Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, who sponsor the award, about the pivotal role of the Art Department, before talking to this year's deserving award winners, Charmian Adams and Gavin Bocquet. Supervising Art Director Charmian Adams's notable work includes such diverse productions as SID & NANCY, DOWNTON ABBEY and SAS ROGUE HEROES Series 1 Production Designer Gavin Bocquet's credits include the STAR WARS prequels, Steven Soderbergh's KAFKA, Matthew Vaughan's STARDUST and Duncan Jones' WARCRAFT. In this week’s episode of the MK3D show Mark Kermode talks about the Oscar wins of 2024, before welcoming his guests, in this Ska Special First on stage was cinematographer Joe Dunton, who talks about shooting the film DANCE CRAZE, which has recently been remastered in 4K by the BFI. DANCE CRAZE showcases the very best of the British Ska phenomenon, with exclusive live performances from THE SPECIALS, MADNESS, THE SELECTER, THE BEAT, BAD MANNERS and THE BODYSNATCHERS – brought to the screen particularly vividly through Dunton’s revolutionary camera work. Joining Mark and Joe on stage are musicians Jerry Dammers (The Specials) and Pauline Black (The Selecter), who talk about the ska movement of the 1980s, and how controversial it still was at that time for people of different colours to take to the stage together. In this week’s episode of the MK3D show Mark Kermode talks to a director who is a legend in his own lifetime: Guillermo Del Toro, together with his co-director for the stop-motion animation musical about Pinocchio, Mark Gustafson. GUILLERMO DEL TORO'S PINOCCHIO released at the end of 2022 is based on Carlo Collodi's novel, The Adventures of Pinocchio, about the wooden puppet who comes to life as the son of his carver, Geppetto. Set in Fascist Italy, the characters are voiced by Gregory Mann as Pinocchio and David Bradley as Geppetto, alongside Ewan McGregor, Ron Perlman, John Turturro, Cate Blanchett, Tim Blake Nelson, Christopher Waltz and Tilda Swinton. Pinocchio was the final film credited to Gustafson before he passed away in 2024.
