Language is power. Words matter. Especially when we are trying to be inclusive. The sector is pushing towards being more inclusive but it's hard to know the measure of success. How do we know when we are getting it right and when we are getting it wrong? To help us answer this, we asked Ettie Bailey-King to join us in the van! From LiveAid to the recent Doctors without Borders Anti-racism campaign we cover all manner of communications wins and failures. We ask Ettie what she thinks about words and phrases like ‘Hard to Reach, ‘Rights-holder’, and ‘Persons with Disability' and through some fighting talk encourage the sector to level up towards anti-oppressive language.

Ettie Bailey-King (she/her) is an inclusive and accessible communication consultant. She helps people to connect through thoughtful language and deliberate design choices that work better for everyone. You can learn more about Ettie's work at ‘Fighting Talk’ communications here. You can find her on LinkedIn: Ettie Bailey-KIng and on Twitter: @ettiebk
