What, exactly, is Satanism and the Church of Satan?

Right off the bat, I'll tell you that 'Satanism' is a loaded term with various interpretations. This podcast episode specifically focuses on the Church of Satan, founded by Anton LaVey.

In other words, Satan is a concept rather than an actual being and does not represent evil, as they argue that pride, liberty and individualism are not negative things.

I chatted to David Harris, a deacon or magister or something-or-other in the Church of Satan. There were no goats heads or child sacrifices, I'm afraid.

It was an interesting and entertaining conversation and I think he is generally a smart guy with whom I both agree and disagree on certain points.
