After this, the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision: 'Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your very great reward.

Our choices often reveal our hearts. This was certainly the case for Abram’s nephew, Lot. Lot was allowed to pick whatever part of the promised land he wanted to settle in. He chose to settle in a nice little plot of land conveniently located near Sodom and Gomorrah. Lot wanted his house to be built in the Kingdom of God, but he wanted a back gate that led to the world.
Lot’s choice and his subsequent calamity is not merely a story about land; it's about life's choices and the motives behind them. Lot's decision, driven by a secret desire to sin and superficial pleasure, is a cautionary tale. It prompts us to consider our own decisions and what drives them. Are we like Lot, choosing paths based on immediate appeal, convenience, or selfish ambition? Or do we, like Abram, entrust our decisions to God, seeking His guidance and wisdom?
Lot's choice reflects a broader human inclination to prioritize the material, carnal, and immediate, often neglecting the spiritual and eternal ramifications. It also speaks to the double life many of us lead, with one foot in God’s Kingdom and another in the world.
REFLECTION
Have you been building your life centered around God, but continue to leave a backdoor open for sin? As long as that door is open, you’re vulnerable. Let this be your challenge to shut down those backdoors to the world, past sins, and toxic relationships that seek to drag you away from God.
PRAYER
After these things the word of the Lord came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.

Dear Heavenly Father when the season comes, help me to make the choice to separate and move on when a relationship must transition and come to an end. When I must choose a new location to move to, I will not only look at the outward appearance but will look intently at the new land and opportunity to make sure Your Spirit and presence are there. As I continue to move in sync with Your commands, I thank You that You will continue to bless me and send words of encouragement through various people, like Abram. I declare that multiplication is in my future, I declare that you will not depart from me nor leave my side until You’ve accomplished Your covenant and promises through me. Thank You Lord that You are for me like You were for Abram in the book of Genesis! In Jesus’ Name, Amen. 🙏🏾 🙏🏾 🙏🏾
