Industry Insights – The EFM Podcast is presented by the European Film Market of the Berlinale. Hosted by curator-producer Nadia Denton and industry analyst Johanna Koljonen, it delves deep into the rapidly evolving film industry.

In this episode, actor and director Jerry Hoffmann discusses his recent work, the sci-fi short I AM. The film, shot during the pandemic and now nominated for a Student Academy Award, will be presented at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival as one of ten selected projects of Future Frames, a programme initiated by the European Film Promotion to introduce the next generation of European Cinema. During the conversation he reflects upon the layers of structural problems, systemic biases within the film industry and the lack of diversity. As a young black filmmaker Jerry shares his perspectives on authenticity, futurism and art. By telling his own story, Jerry identifies what’s needed to move towards a more “humanized” future, where diversity & inclusion no longer need to be addressed in a podcast or elsewhere, but are a normality…

This podcast episode has been developed in collaboration with European Film Promotion on the occasion of their Future Frames programme, which highlights new European cinema and the promising young directing talent behind it: recommended by the EFP member organisations and selected by the artistic team of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.

The Berlinale’s European Film Market is the first international film market of the year, where the film industry starts its business. Industry Insights - The EFM Podcast puts a spotlight on highly topical and trendsetting industry issues, thereby creating a compass for the forthcoming film year.
