After moving to Mathare in Nairobi in 1992, Moses dedicated himself to building a brighter future for his family, constructing nine rental houses that became the backbone of their livelihood. But when relentless storms unleashed devastating floods, everything changed. His hard work was swept away, leaving behind ruins and a cycle of debt that threatened to drown his hopes.

Moses’s journey is one of heartache and strength, illustrating the profound emotional toll such tragedies can inflict on families. His wife, burdened by stress, struggles to maintain her health, while their children are sent away to shield them from the harsh realities of their disrupted lives. After a gut-wrenching phone call from his son, informing him of the demolition, Moses returned to a scene of utter devastation—except for one small room, a fragile reminder of the life he once built.

In his story lies a powerful call to action. Moses urges the government to prioritize the lives of those impacted by disasters and demolitions, advocating for comprehensive assessments before irreversible decisions are made.
