Welcome back to "The Hormone Helper Podcast." I'm Andrew, and today we've embarked on a deep dive into the realm of digestion. We've explored how complex this process truly is, involving organs and hormones working in harmony. Digestion is like a symphony, and understanding it can lead to better digestion, reduced bloating, discomfort, and even improved weight loss results.

We learned that even with a premium digestive system, it can only break down about 90 percent of what we eat, leaving some waste behind. A healthy digestive process involves multiple steps, starting with stomach juices containing hydrochloric acid and enzymes to break down food into absorbable chunks.

Hormones, including gastrin, ghrelin, and leptin, influence how our stomach functions and regulate appetite. The small and large intestines play a crucial role in nutrient absorption, while chronic stress can disrupt digestion by redirecting blood flow away from the digestive system.

Estrogen imbalances can wreak havoc on digestion. High estrogen levels can result from medication, personal care products, and certain foods, leading to bloating, inflammation, and weight gain. Hormone-supportive foods, like whole grains, lean proteins, healthy fats, and colourful fruits and vegetables, can create a foundation for better digestion and hormonal balance.
