There seems to be a fever pitch recently around predicting recessions, layoffs, and other cataclysmic financial events. With the stock market recently tanking, there seems to be a sense of hesitation among people who think things are going to get worse. With that said, it seems paradoxical that unemployment is at a historic low, and driving the growth of work tech hasn’t changed.
Not only is there a dearth of talent for in demand skills, including a mismatch of skills that are needed today and will be needed in the future, there is also a great need of reskilling. All of this should be framed up with opportunity, but there is a sourness currently in the market due to the delays and deliverability over the past couple of years during the pandemic.
When you start to look at what is going on in work tech, there is a lot more good news that is being obscured by some of the marquee brands within tech. It seems there wasn’t a slow down in work tech, with pent up demand unfurling, and growth rates in all categories across the board. Even with this, there is a growing sense of unease with work tech executives and the future of 2022 and beyond.
The anxiety has penetrated the market that is not in a bubble and is extremely healthy with buying and investing. There is so much that isn’t thought about in terms of attitudes, behaviors, and beliefs that are shaped during times like this. For example, when a big tech company misses their earnings and gets hammered in the stock market, there’s a cascading impact mainly caused by institutional investors.
We are already in the 2nd best year of work tech investment, and it seems like more founders and CEOs are hitting the accelerator and asking where, when, and how much to invest.
