Mattio Martinez is a stand-up comedian, writer, and director. Growing up in a Catholic family as a gay kid in the 80s and 90s, Mattio shares his struggles with internalized homophobia and why he avoided participating in gay pride for a long time. Oliver and Mattio discuss the pros and cons of the commercialization of gay pride such as corporation sponsorship, celebrity involvement, and rainbow merchandise. Mattio recounts his story of coming out to his Latino parents and the shame he had felt about marrying a gay male. Both stand-up comedians, Mattio and Oliver talk about how they started in stand-up comedy and the psychological relief stand-up comedy can produce. Mattio was a close friend of Dustin Diamond, best known for playing Screech on Saved by the Bell, and Mattio brings up bits of memories he has with Dustin.
