The War and Treaty’s Michael and Tanya Trotter grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, and Washington, DC, respectively, but both have family roots in the South. They also grew up in the musical traditions of their churches – Tanya in the Black Baptist Church and Michael in the Seventh Day Adventist Church – where they learned the power of song to move people. After becoming a father at a very young age, Michael eventually joined the armed forces and served in Iraq and Germany, where he took up songwriting as a way of dealing with his experiences there. Meanwhile Tanya embarked on a singing and acting career after a breakthrough appearance in Sister Act 2 alongside Whoopi Goldberg and Lauryn Hill. Now, after a long and sometimes traumatic journey, Michael and Tanya are married, touring, winning all sorts of awards, and set to release their fifth album together, and their fourth as The War and Treaty. Sid talks to Michael and Tanya about the new record, Plus One , as well as their collaboration with Miranda Lambert, what it was like to record at FAME studios in Muscle Shoals, and how they’re blending country, soul, gospel, and R&B. IT’S DIFFICULT enough explaining why we Christians believe in Jesus, but doing so with our Jewish brothers and sisters requires tact and patience made necessary by almost 1,900 years of mutual animosity. We’re joined this week by Dr. Igal German, founding director of the Institute of Biblical Apologetics ( BibleApologist.org ) and Yesod Bible Center ( YesodBibleCenter.com ). We discuss Dr. German’s journey from rabbinic Judaism to faith in Jesus as the Messiah, his work in apologetics, and the current state of Christian responses to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Dr. German emphasizes the importance of understanding apologetics as a defense of faith, the need for a strong Christian voice in support of Israel, and the mission to reach the Jewish community with the gospel. Ern Baxter was born in Saskatchewan, Canada. He was raised in classical Pentecostalism. Later in his teenage years, Ern lost his faith reacting to legalistic religion. He returned to Christianity after he was miracously healed from pneumonia and supposedly after being informed by a friend that being a Christian isn’t about what you do for God, but it is about what Jesus Christ has done for you. On the 24 May 1932, he entered full time ministry as a musician. Ern Baxter was a major Christian force in the United States, Australia and the United Kingdom. Some of these teachings were personally recorded by the founder of Broken Bread Teaching Tapes, Lyvonne Goza. She acquired as many of Baxter’s tapes as she could, making it possible to offer these teachings to you, today. Near the end of his life, Ern was attempting to impart what he had learned to younger men – his "Timothys". Broken Bread Teaching Tapes was given permission by Ern Baxter, before his death, to reproduce and distrubute his teaching. We are attempting to preserve his teachings by converting his aging tapes into digital format and to distribute them free of charge using the internet to anyone who will listen to them. We are continuing his efforts to produce – his “Timothys” who spread the Word Of God.…
