Walz-Vance Debate Heavy on Policy, Stays Cordial; US Condemns Iran Attack, Israel Says Iran Will Pay

Vice presidential nominees JD Vance and Tim Walz faced off Tuesday night in their first and only debate of the 2024 campaign in New York. Walz and Vance engaged in a policy-heavy discussion just five weeks before Election Day.

Iran fired approximately 180 ballistic missiles across Israel on Tuesday. The attack is drawing condemnation from world leaders and threatening to push the Middle East into a wider regional conflict. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said the attack was in retaliation to the killing of the Hezbollah terrorist group’s leader Hassan Nasrallah and Iranian general Abbas Nilforoushan last week. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to retaliate.

Rescue efforts continue in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, which has devastated the Southeast. The storm has claimed more than 160 lives and destroyed homes. Crews are slowly restoring power to affected areas, but more than 1.4 million energy customers are still in the dark.
