Purpose and Hope. It is something that is such an integral part of our lives as young men and women that we often take it for granted. As we age any number of things can derail our hope and purpose. Financial failures, aging, injury and pain, or sometimes just the stress of life can all rob us of those things that made life worth living for when we were young. It takes more than just the desire to change. It takes hope and purpose and these are not easily found. You have to dig, research, take chances, and fail before you ever come close to finding it. This painful journey is something I experienced and hope to help you find yours along the way.

When I got on the pod w/ Andy Moeckel I knew we were going to talk about how to cook wild-game in a way that was brand new to me ( and that sounds insanely good ) , but didn’t know what an accomplished hunter Andy is. I am looking forward to trying his method this week at Sorinex Outdoors Winterstrong event. I think the best way to summarize the Flip-Flop is to take it straight from Andy’s website. Enjoy the podcast. “This all starts with my grandfather, Al Giddings and I guess the best place to start would be shortly after WW II when he got off the ship in San Francisco and decided to join the Department Of California Fish and Game in 1948. He became the main warden for the North Bay area, Marin, and Sonoma counties. In his time spent in west Marin he was afforded the ability to help oversee fish ladders coming into the streams for the spawn as well as becoming familiar with all of the local hunting clubs and ranches. It was at a small sheep ranch in Nicasio where it is believed that he picked up this amazing style of cooking from a Portuguese rancher. This family would do entire sheep legs on a spit at a time and feed their families and local community. My grandfather being the outdoorsman that he was instantly had the idea that, “if sheep is this good…venison will be better.” So of course, he dove into saving hind quarters off of deer and sharing this method with the rest of the local ranching community of west Marin. He would travel from hunting club to hunting club passing along this marvelous style, that at the time erupted across Marin and Sonoma counties. It became so well know that even the meat processors knew of then and some still to this day know how to cut up a Flip Flop when asked to do so! For me hearing my mom share the stories of her childhood growing up in that kind of environment makes so much sense to me because that’s exactly how I remember my childhood as well. Family and friends, hunters and non-hunters alike getting together for great laughs, sharing adventures and the love of the outdoors. There were some parties that were so big it would take several deer legs and sometimes even elk legs to feed the masses. At some point, and my father doesn’t remember the year, the blade was passed down to him by Al and he started cutting up the legs. I can’t remember many deer that anyone in the family had broke down where the legs went to steak or burger. In the breakdown of our deer – as it’s been taught to me by my dad – neck meat is stew, backstraps and loins are the steaks, shoulders and ribs can be burger or stew and those hams baby, those hams are for the grill. “There is no I REPEAT, NO BETTER WAY TO EAT VENISON or any animal that doesn’t give trig. The Flip Flop experience is one that no person should ever miss out on.” You can listen to this episode on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, iHeart Podcasts, and Podbean by searching Do Not Go Quietly w/ Eric Wilson You can find Andy on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/theflipflopguy/ and on his website https://www.theflipflopguy.com/ You can follow Eric Wilson on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/ericwilsoncoaching/ Use Code DONOTGO20 for 20% off Asio Gear https://asiogear.com/ or follow them on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/asio_gear/ #hunting #bowhunting #huntingpodcast #hunter #elk #huntinggear #muledeer #bowhunting #bowhunt #bowhunter #montana #huntmontana #hunter #hunt #hunterxhunter #jesus #faith #podcastformen #podcast #podcasts #huntingpodcast #trainingpodcast #whitetaildeer #whitetail #whitetaildeerhunting #deerhunter #deerhunting #deer #elkhunt #diyhunting #backcountryhunting #diyelkhunt #whitetails #deerhunting #deerhunter #deer #ruthunting #huntsmallparcels #publiclandhunting #treestandhunting #spotandstalk #elkhunting #muledeerhunting #westernhunting #gohunt #huntinggear #outdoors #outdoorgear #outdoorpodcast #hunt #elkhunter…

We all want to climb the mountain but what happens when you get there and realize all the things you thought you would find at the top are missing ? Brandon Lilly is a world champion powerlifter and accomplished traditional bow hunter who can answer this question. At one point Brandon could bench press over 800 lbs and squat over 1,000 lbs. Those are insane amounts of weight and Brandon was one of the best. However, he found that his pursuit of these records left him self-focused and feeling empty and alone. It wasn't until Brandon faced a career-ending injury that he found healing in the outdoors as well as having the right group of people around him. The real joy is the journey and surrounding yourself with the kind of people who will take "the 3 am phone call" ..... and there aren't many of them. We also discuss why Brandon was drawn to traditional bowhunting and the role that plays in his life now. Brandon is a part of the Sorinex Outdoors family and has a great deal of insight on the role others can play in our walk back from the darkness. I appreciate his time and insight. Clint Campbell is the host of the Truth from The Stand podcast. With over 400 Episodes, Clint has engaged with some of the best big buck killers in the country. We spent a lot of our time discussing the unique challenges/solutions involved in hunting LOW-DENSITY deer areas as well as strategies that can better help you tackle your OUT-OF-STATE hunts. Clint spent this past season chasing a monster in his home state of PA, spending over 30 days in his truck/trailer chasing this 200 plus giant, only to find out the buck had been found dead by some locals in the area in mid-November. Great story. Clint is a wealth of knowledge and I know you will take away some great tips you can apply to your time in the field. Thanks for listening. “About 15 years ago, I stopped hunting deer (plural) and started hunting specific, individual deer. With few bucks surviving to an age where they became distinguishable, I focused on one specific deer, mostly because I didn't have any other options. I could have a wall full of 140 class bucks, but I chose quality over quantity and was willing to eat my tag just for the chance to chase a true giant the following season. For my first few years of this quest, I found myself on the verge of success, but failed to execute. I worked harder, and asked more questions, and things started to fall into place. Over the last 10 years, I have had 100% of my target bucks within bow range, and wrapped my tag on them 80% of the time. “ - The Untambed Ambition The Untamed Ambition and Whitetail Ambition are consulting and coaching companies owned by Thomas Mlsna and he knows his stuff. He is data driven and uses the scientific method to help you compile information, form hypothesis, and work through them to track and kill your target buck. We focused our conversation on the intricacies of hunting small land parcels as well as many of the challenges that accompany hunting this type of land. There is a lot of conversation right now about public land hunting, but there are many of us hunting lease or permission properties much smaller in size with a lot more pressure and I really wanted to dial in on these on this episode. I learned a lot and if you are hunting smaller parcels I think you will find it extremely helpful. Enjoy and thanks for listening. Drake Deerman is a humble killer from the great state of Alabama. He travels the southeast and the midwest chasing giant whitetails and is pretty darn good at it. I usually write up a bio and summary but I think Drake’s Instagram post sums this story up pretty well. We dive deep into how the whole thing went down and there are a lot of great lessons to learn here. Enjoy “Words can never truly describe the roller coaster of emotions that led to harvesting, and putting my hands on this deer. Nine days sleeping in my truck, losing my #1 shooter, which would have been the biggest deer of my life, leading to a four day search for him that turned out to nothing. I decided to start over and drop everything I knew about this property and start completely fresh searching for a new deer. This is the hardest pressured public land I’ve ever hunted, and after two days of daylight to dark relentlessly searching I found this buck. Two more days of watching him, having him within bow range twice with no shot opportunity, passing on his running buddy three times which would have been the biggest buck of my life, all came down to a 64 yard shot when he stood up out of his bed. This is the hardest hunt I’ve ever been on, the hardest earned deer I’ve ever killed. Every high, low, happiness and heartbreak went into this. Everything I had. And I am beyond humbled, thankful, and blessed to put my hands on this once in a lifetime animal. So many prayers went into this.” Final score: 166 3/8” - Drake Deerman Sept. 13, 2024 You can listen to this episode on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, iHeart Podcasts, and Podbean by searching Do Not Go Quietly w/ Eric Wilson You can find Drake on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/_drakedeerman/ You can follow Eric Wilson on Instragram https://www.instagram.com/ericwilsoncoaching/ Use Code radonotgo30 for 30% of all training programs at Ridgeline Athlete https://www.ridgelineathlete.com/ and follow on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/ridgeline_athlete/ Use Code DONOTGO20 for 20% off Asio Gear https://asiogear.com/ or follow them on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/ #hunting #elkhunting #bowhunting #muledeerhunting #westernhunting #gohunt #huntingpodcast #hunter #elk #huntinggear #muledeer #bowhunting #bowhunt #bowhunter #montana #huntmontana #hunter #hunt #hunterxhunter #jesus #faith #podcastformen #podcast #podcasts #huntingpodcast #trainingpodcast #whitetaildeer #whitetail #whitetaildeerhunting #deerhunter #deerhunting #deer #elkhunt #diyhunting #backcountryhunting #diyelkhunt #whitetails #deerhunting #deerhunter #deer…
I am extremely thankful to Cliff Gray for conducting this interview and helping me debrief this hunt. I believe it turned out much better than if I had try to do it on my own. Cliff is an amazing man & helped me a ton in preparation for this hunt. For this episode, my Instagram post just a few days after I returned from this hunt is probably the best way to introduce it. I will leave it there and hope you all enjoy. IG Post Dated September 11, 2024 It was December of 2022. I could barely walk to the end of my driveway. Major spine and neurological issues had hobbled me and I barely recognized the man in the mirror. @theseanjacobs was the architect of my rehabilitation & gave me hope. @ridgeline_athlete prepared me. For almost 2 years I rehabbed, trained, and dreamed of taking on an elk hunt in the western part of the country. 4:45 am every day Monday through Saturday looked exactly the same. 4:45 - Bible Study & Ice 5:30 - Prayer 5:45 - Train Gods Providence Nothing derailed me from my preparation. @laurinwilsonre was constantly there. From the dark times through the hard work to the sacrifices she had to make for me to leave everything for a week and chase my ghosts; there is no way to express my love & gratitude for your undying support & understanding of what makes my soul stir. You are my heart Gracie. @reilygrace you were always an inspiration. My sweet girl🙏 Western hunts are romanticized but there is nothing romantic about total silence. I hunted from 5:30 am to 8 pm every day. 14 hour days of absolutely no bugles & no elk. All of that training, all of those idyllic visions of chasing screaming bulls, all of that romance about the west became really long days turning up nothing. 1 day turned into 2 turned into 4 turned into 6. I started falling down mentally. Why do I think I belong out here ? What made me think I could do this ? I could be at home with my family. Why would I ask her to make this sacrifice ? I called on Day 6 and shared my doubts. “ You took off a whole week for this. You’ve trained for almost 2 years. Stop focusing on what isn’t happening. Focus on the beauty. Focus on the gift you’ve received of being able to climb mountains & just be there. Focus on the blessing. Get out & hunt.” She was right. I pivoted with renewed energy. I sat a blind. I used a decoy. I called. I did everything I could think of. I hunted dawn to dusk until last light of the last day. I left every bit of me out there. I didn’t harvest an elk but I was given the gift of renewal. As I reflect on this, I cannot ask more. TY🙏 to everyone who was a part of this. Heath Hansen has been chasing elk since he can remember. While there are many people right now who are chasing the sexy "get as deep as you can into the backcountry" trend, we discussed the positives of staying mobile when you are hunting a new area and specific tactics around hunting thick timber. A native of Montana, Heath is an accomplished hunter and has a special affinity for chasing big game with the bow. Heath obsesses over the details of the hunt and targeting older age bulls. Heath just got back from an antelope hunt that was cut short from Covid and we dove into an antelope chase that was oh .... so .... close. At the time of this recording, I am 2 weeks from my first archery elk hunt in Colorado and that is some of the backdrop to this conversation. Hunting swamps isn't discussed much on podcasts, but if you hunt whitetail in the South or in low-lying areas of the midwest it is can be a huge opportunity for your to nab those crafty, mature bucks. Joe Miles is the host of the Mission Whitetail Podcast, the founder of Asio Gear, and one of the best whitetail hunters I know. If you are a Christ follower but tired of the milquetoast journey that many churches today are offering, this one is for you. Kyle Thompson is willing to let that arrow fly straight and true. During our conversation Kyle and I discussed many issues that most pastors won’t go near; such as the lack of true masculinity in the Church, supposed “toxic” masculinity in culture, how to defeat pro-abortion arguments, wokeness and cancel culture, more. If you are a father or mother, this episode is especially poignant as we also talked about how to prepare your children for secular messaging and raise them in a way that equips them to walk forward in their faith. We also discussed education and the options you are parents should be considering to help your children avoid the daily indoctrination of our public school systems. Kyle Thompson, Oklahoma native, founded Undaunted.Life in 2017. The mission of Undaunted.Life is equipping men to push back darkness. They do this by providing content that leads men to forge spiritual, mental, and physical resilience. Shawn Melland grabbed the cover of Eastmans’ Bowhunting Journal this past issue and when I heard he was going to be in town for Summer Strong 17 over at Sorinex HQ this week, I convinced him to jump across the lake and join me in the studio. I am often intrigued about the drive that causes folks from small places to make big footprints in the world. Shawn is a man leaving big footprints. From a small town in western North Dakota, where there were more cattle than people, Shawn Melland has become one of the most formidable elk hunters in Montana and on the western landscape. Shawn has arrowed 7 bulls in 8 seasons with an average gross score of just over 375”. We know score isn’t the whole game, but even if you aren’t a “score” guy, you have to be impressed with what Shawn has accomplished in a relatively short amount of time as a bowhunter focused on chasing giant elk. We also have a bonus guest on this episode as . Shawn’s partner in crime, Colton Dombrowki, joined him on the trip so we threw him into the fray as well. The self-titled Bugle Boys were great guests and we had a ripping good time talking elk strategy as well as telling some great stories. Through passion drive, and discipline Shawn has become one of the most accomplished archery elk hunters over the last decade. Shawn is an entrepreneur, father, husband, athlete, & bow hunter. Dan Gates is the chair of the Colorado Wildlife Council, the face of Coloradans for Responsible Wildlife Management, C.R.W.M., and is a staunch advocate for the North American Model of Wildlife Conservation model. Dan is fighting daily against groups like PITA and other politically motivated organizations who are targeting our wildlife with activism that damages our wildlife ecosystem as well as our way of life as hunters. You can find Dan & C.R.W.M. on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/c.r.w.m/ and visit their website to DONATE to the cause and help save our way of life as hunters. https://savethehuntcolorado.com/about/ At the close of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries, the early pioneers of today’s sportsmen’s conservation community faced a unique set of challenges. As a result of market hunting, purposeful extirpation, and general exploitation of natural resources, many game species were at historically low population levels throughout much of their historical range. The early champions of today’s conservation ethic, such as President Theodore Roosevelt, George Bird Grinnell, and Gifford Pichot, faced this challenge head on. Through their efforts and those of others, was born the North American Model of Wildlife Conservation which set in place the tenets that define our approach to wildlife conservation to this day. During this period state fish and wildlife agencies were formed, and game laws were implemented to regulate harvest. Additionally, we saw the birth of the “user-pays, public benefit” American System of Conservation Funding through which sportsmen and women provide long-term and sustainable funding for the agencies tasked with managing the vast majority of our nation’s game species. Complementary efforts effectively shut down market hunting, established what is today the Fish and Wildlife Service, and set aside public lands to be conserved. As a result of the laudable work of these early conservationists, sportsmen and women in the later 20th century were able to experience the “golden age” of hunting. Popular game species returned to at or near historic highs, hunting was a vibrant part of our culture throughout much of the nation, and state fish and wildlife agencies were well funded, held in high regard, and effectively carried out their missions of scientific management of game species. Chris Hunt is telling a story ..... and people are listening. His Instagram account The Code of the West has rocketed from 5K followers in February to almost 88K at the time of this posting. Our conversation started as the genesis of COTW but it didn't take long for two guys who love literature and thinkers to start nerding out on Carl Jung. We talked about some of his painful personal history and explored how freeing himself from the restrictions of analysis has allowed him to regain the artistry of storytelling. In a way, while creating a new journey for all of the COTW followers, Chris has created a new journey for himself at the same time. This is a real one - Eric Chris is a former comic book writer and artist turned creative director. An adopted son of The West since childhood, Hunt founded Code Of The West in an effort to marry his two backgrounds in an attempt to reignite the shared story we use to all have as Americans, while also inspiring ourselves to be better tomorrow. 2 minutes and you will know why I call Cliff the Pirate. He's a laid back dude who jumps between spear fishing in Puerto Rico & big game hunting the west. We had a great conversation discussing his episode on Joe Rogan, his rise to You Tube sex symbol, and his transition from being a guide business owner to his new venture in 1 on 1 hunting camps for hunters trying to shorten the learning curve out west. After a short stint as a financial trader, Cliff left the corporate world to found and operate some of the largest and most remote wilderness outfitting businesses in North America. Cliff is an avid outdoorsman, pilot and certified wilderness first responder. He has personally guided dozens of big game hunts, while his previous businesses have operated more than a thousand wilderness expeditions. Before pissing them away to become a hunting guide, Cliff earned degrees from Stanford University and University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business. Cliff sold all of his operating outfitting businesses in 2021 to become a YouTuber and make his parents proud. A native of Idaho, he has spent his life perfecting his craft and chasing screaming bulls with great success. Dirk is also the marketing manager for Phelps Game Calls, co-host of the Cutting the Distance Podcast, and creates all of the amazing films you see on his own You Tube Channel. His latest, Ghost Bulls of the North, is a great watch. While we do talk bugling in this episode, the initial part of our conversation focused around the evolution of wolves in Idaho, how they were introduced, how they have evolved, and the impact they have had on the Idaho elk population and hunting. In addition, we discussed the Idaho draw process, how to hunt really nasty terrain, and ways to navigate the increased pressure caused by new hunters. Part of our conversation focused around the sense of solitude we enjoy as hunters that is more and more being threatened by the rise in popularity of western hunting as well as the changes of etiquette among hunters on the mountain. And of course we talked about bugling, the development of the Phelps Maverick call, and other good elk calling stuff. This was my first time having Dirk on the podcast and I hope to have him back in the future. He is one of those guys who, after just speaking for a few minutes, I recognized as a truly genuine person and someone I hope to spend more time with in the future. Thank you Dirk for joining me. 18 months ago I sat at a table with Bert Sorin listening to him discuss bowhunting whitetail. I have spent the majority of my last 30 years on a football field in the fall but know that in the fall of 2023 I would not be coaching and that the 2022 season might be my last. I was wondering what I was going to do with my time. A mutual friend introduced me to Bert and I asked him to lunch knowing he was an avid hunter. As he showed me the Huntstand app and discussed hunting strategy, my mind was spinning 100 miles an hour. I knew nothing about hunting but the strategy of it resonated with the coach in me. After that meeting, and over the course of the next month, I decided I was going to spend the entire winter and spring trying to figure out how to take on the challenge of bowhunting whitetail during the fall of 2024. This is a short summary of my 2023 season. Failures in SC, a big win in Illinois, and in general the ups and downs of a hunter. It is nothing unique. Other hunters go through it year after year. The only thing unique about it was that I was tackling this challenge at the age of 55. Here I am now 18 months later and I am, like so many others, changed completely. The piece I feel in the woods, the connection I feel to the animals I hunt, and the preparation it takes to even attempt bowhunting has left an indelible imprint on me. I will do this as long as the Lord gives me the ability to. Thanks for listening. If you are new to the Western Hunting game this episode is for you. Trail Kreitzer a legitimate backcountry hunter and one hell of a guy. He is one of the go-to sources of information for Western Big Game Hunting in print and on social media. As a member of the Go Hunt team, he is a host of the Big Hunt Guys Podcast, an author of numerous hunting strategy articles, and is featured each year in a number of the professionally created Go Hunt films. Trail frequently discusses his passion for Elk hunting on the Go Hunt podcast and the majority of our conversation focused around Elk and the many facets of preparing for and taking on a backcountry elk hunt. While much of this information is standard for existing western hunters, I wanted to utilize our time together to provide a launching point for eastern hunters who are either preparing for a western hunt or have wanted to take on the western big game but have been intimidated by the draw process, difference in topography, or necessary changes in hunting strategy. I did my best to cast a broad net around all the basics of elk hunting with a bit of mule deer sprinkled in. Nothing is drilled down to the fine details. Rather I tried to cover all over the bases so you would know were to start. From essential gear, to glassing strategy, to evaluating road on mapping software, to what to do with an elk herd once you find them we took a big swing at helping you get ready for your western backcountry hunt. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. If you know whitetails, you know Joe Miles. Joe is the founder of Asio Gear as well as the leader of the Mission Whitetail podcast. Joe grew up hunting and when I say that, I am not exaggerating. He told me the story of waking up at 3 years old in a sleeping bag under a tree in the middle of the woods. Having no idea where he was, Joe felt something fall and hit him on the head. It was a piece of candy that his father, smiling ear to ear, had dropped from the tree. Joe killed his first buck at 5 years old and he's been chasing these beautiful animals ever since. We talked about my rookie bowhunting season, Joe's renewed love of rut hunting, setting up and hunting true funnels, hunting southern swamps, and of course our successes and failures of 2023. Joe hunts all over the world but his passion is whitetail hunting. Joe started ASIO Gear out of a passion for whitetail bowhunting. He is an over-the-top whitetail bowhunter of 30 years who was looking for a way to take his bowhunting to the next level. In the end, he created a never-before-seen camo pattern that he knew would do exactly that. In short, make him better at what he loved doing most. Joe's goal for ASIO Gear was to create a high end whitetail hunting apparel line that could maximize bowhunters’ efficiency and effectiveness while bowhunting from a tree. ASIO Gear offers a camouflage pattern that has never been seen before. The ASIO RAPTOR CAMO® pattern was inspired by the feather pattern and blend of the most majestic of tree predators and master of camouflage, the owl. ASIO is a pattern that works in the deep woods of the South just as well as the leaf-barren hardwoods of the Northeast in the winter. One of a kind, the ASIO RAPTOR CAMO® pattern blends perfectly in any tree, in any part of the whitetail range, giving bowhunters flexibility no matter where they roam. Dan Staton's Youtube Channel states .... " We love hard work and the flight of the arrow." That is a great summary of the way Dan Staton approaches his life and business. The Elkshape channel, and brand, has become one of the most influential in the hunting community. Dan and I discussed the recent release of his film 60 hrs to kick things off. The film is covers his entire month of September archery Elk hunting. Rather than making a multiple episode season, Dan put all of his September into one film that is easy to digest. This ran the gamut of hunting for 25 days before he took a bull elk and then taking 2 in 2 days. From having his motorcycle break down in the field to realizing he had left his wallet at the gas station a week earlier, we had some laughs over his pain. The backdrop to all of this, of course, is that hunting is HARD. As hunters we constantly have to overcome the difficulties that each day in the field throws at us. Those who can overcome not just the physical, but the mental stressors each day, are the hunters that see success year after year. As a new hunter, guys like Dan inspire me to constantly strive to be a better version of myself. We also took time to talk about how a small experiment with YouTube in 2013 has turned into a serious brand in the hunting community and a career. Dan is an inspiration as a hunter, as a guy who trains hard to prepare himself, and as an entrepreneur. It was a real pleasure to sit down with Dan. He's a guy I would love to have the chance to hunt with some day and the kind of guy you would want in your foxhole if SHTF. Dan, I appreciate you brother. Thank you…

Johnathan McKormick, or as you likely know him, RedBeard Outdoors is the kind of influencer I love to follow. He is a working man. He balances his faith, his love for the outdoors, and all of his media channels with the responsibilities of being a husband, father, and leader in his family. Johnathan and I spent the initial part of this conversation discussing the building of RedBeard Outdoors, his alignment with other brands, and how he has leveraged that along with his relationships to continue the growth of his media platforms. I am always intrigued by the ingenuity and resourcefulness of entrepreneurs like Johnathan. As we talked, our conversation took a turn towards faith and the importance it plays in both of our lives as we strive to be great leaders of our families as well as present husbands and fathers. Johnathan started hunting with a rifle and moved to bow in 2019 for the experience/challenge. He started the RBO channel in 2021 to share a passion for faith, family, fitness, and the outdoors with others. He is a Leader with 1st Phorm Outdoors & enjoys getting outdoors and sharing that passion with others, no matter the endeavor. Johnathan is gear aficianado and enjoys doing reviews for others in an effort of promoting honest feedback on equipment. Bobby Young has been an important part of my life for over 10 years. From mentoring our oldest son as a teacher, to working together on the football field as coaches, to watching him start his own ministry a few years ago, Bobby is the kind of man that makes your life better for knowing him. Most recently Bobby accepted the challenge of heading up a new mens group I am a part of and he is making an impact in the lives of a number of men I know. When Bobby Young was five years old his mother died. At seventeen his father passed away. Three days before his father died, Bobby invited the Lord Jesus into his life. Our conversation covers free will, the desire to be love & seen, why people do what they do ( it's not what you might think ) and the mistakes many of us make in our walk with, or search for, Jesus. Bobby is not your average pastor. Part theologian, part philosopher, and all parts politically incorrect Bobby reminds you more of the guy at the ball game than the guy in the pulpit. This is the secret sauce. One of the most disarming men I have known, Bobby knows how to make everyone feel seen and heard. That, and his ability to share the gospel in a way that makes the non-believer want to ask question after question, is his super power. I started this podcast by asking him what he would say to someone who wanted to know why our world was going as haywire as it is. In true Bobby fashion, he used that question as a way to talk about love and why it, or the lack of it, is the key to all of the mess we are seeing. Some of the the people most damaged in our world today are the one’s that need it most. I hope you take the time to listen to this episode. It is meaningful and barely scrapes the surface of a topic very few are good at discussing, but Bobby is one of those few. If you are searching, Bobby is not just a great guy to listen to but you can actually reach out and speak with him. In addition to speaking every Sunday throughout Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina, Bobby is engaged in discipling various men throughout each week. He also produce a daily blog and podcast. Both can be accessed at www. Byoungministry.com Bobby’s podcast can be accessed on Apple Podcasts, Rumble, Spotify and You Tube…
Bert & I started talking the minute we hit the studio & before we started recording. Rather than go back and try to re-create, I just hit record so you will pick this up mid-conversation. We were on some good stuff so I just rolled with it. In this episode we explore the expansion of the Sorinex brand, the fundamentals of building a brand & scaling a business, and Bert's epic MuleDeer stalk in Utah. Bert is currently the President and Co-Owner of Sorinex Exercise Equipment, a very successful family run business founded by his father, another big name in the iron game, Richard Sorin. Together they are the inventors of hardware and applications to make people more effective, efficient, and safe on the sports field and the battle field. Growing up with a barbell in his hand, performance has been pivotal in charting the course of Bert Sorin's life and leading him to become a 4-time Division 1 All-American Track and Field (Hammer and 35 lb. Weight Throw), Southeastern Conference Champion, former record holder in Weight Throw, and an Olympic trials athlete. As a new hunter, Bert has been an amazing mentor to me. He graciously met with me for lunch close to a year ago and much of my desire to take on bowhunting came from that meeting. Since then, Bert has answered way too many of my text messages & phone calls seeking his guidance on bow set-ups, how to scout land, set up trail cameras & pattern deer behavior. The list goes on & on. I can't express enough what a truly genuine person Bert is. Although Bert never served in the arms forces, his gear is changing the game to provide readiness and rebuilding to the veterans prior to, during and after their deployments to far off, hostile lands. Bert’s network of veterans, scientists, coaches and therapists allows for a combination of expertise and support, and has been changing lives on both sides of the table. Bert pushes each day to find the best in people, and to assist in their exploration of their potential and maximize their value to the cause. Bert and his wonderful wife Lesley are the proud parents of three children. The Sorin family is rooted in strength, both in the human performance world and at home.…
Jeff Scott is a name synonymous with football excellence. Born and raised with a football pedigree, he has made a profound impact on the world of college football. He is a mentor, a strategist, and a leader who has helped shape countless young athletes into champions on and off the field. Jeff and I discuss the state of college football today, the massive transformation of recruiting & player retention due to the transfer portal and NIL, and what the next 5 years is likely to look like on the CFB landscape. Jeff's career includes stints as Head Coach at South Florida as well as Co-Offensive Coordinator at Clemson University, where he played an instrumental role in transforming their football program into a national powerhouse. His excellence as a recruiter, dedication to player development, and his innovative coaching strategies have left an indelible mark on the sport. Beyond the X's and O's, Jeff Scott is a dedicated husband and father as well as a man of faith, character and integrity. He's known for his faith, instilling important life lessons in his players, and teaching them the values of discipline & resilience well beyond the football field. #collegefootball #CFBPlayoff #CFP #recruiting #NIL #clemson #clemsonfootball…
Josh is the founder of PHNM Brand Fitness & Nutrition and is the director of performance for their online coaching & nutritional consulting services. He has worked with all levels of athletes from MLB & NFL players to high school athletes preparing for the college recruiting cycle. Josh and I spend a lot of time in this conversation discussing high school athletes & the recruiting process, what it takes to make it to the next level, as well as how training should progress as we age and continue to take on new physical challenges. There is a huge difference between the 40-50 year old on the couch watching Netflix vs the person continuing to challenge themselves physically and pushing to reach their full potential regardless of age. Josh now works with all populations in the development of their fitness goals. As a Precision Nutrition Level 1 coach he specializes in the area of weight loss, body composition management, & strength training. Prior to PHNM Josh was the co-founder of Athlete's Arena Sport Performance and Cross-Fit in Columbia, SC. He graduated from Western Michigan University with a degree in exercise science and interned at the renowned IMG Academies to further his practical application in the field of strength and conditioning. #strengthtraining #strengthandconditioning #humanperformance #fitness #nutrition #onlinecoaching #huntingfitness #recruitment #recruiting #functionalfitness…
