S1 Ep1: Mapping the AfCFTA for African Women
Manage episode 354909792 series 3446286
Trade is a crucial area for women and inclusive trade policies valuably contribute to advancing gender equality and women’s economic empowerment.
The AfCFTA has been identified as a key pillar for working towards and building shared prosperity through the social and economic transformation of the continent.
However a majority of trade policies and frameworks including the AfCFTA have often been gender blind, and contain provisions that worsen the marginalization of women.
Our guest, Sodfa Daaji discusses a mapping study that she authored that assesses women’s participation in the implementation of the AfCFTA . In addition to highlighting existing gaps, Sodfa also identifies entry points for a more meaningful engagement for women’s rights and feminists organizations within the process of the implementation of the AfCFTA.
Sodfa Daaji is a women’s rights advocate, passionate about feminist jurisprudence. She is the Founder and Executive Director of the African Legal Think Tank on Women’s Rights, a continental institute aiming at addressing modern forms of violence against women. She is currently a Research Fellow at MS Training Center for Development Cooperation in Arusha, Tanzania.
