A Prior “Independence Day Devotional” as We Prepare to Celebrate Again - We Must Have a Great Spiritual Awakening that Returns America to God

MESSAGE SUMMARY: Will you "Stand in the Gap" and participate in a Great Awakening and Spiritual Renewal in America?

The signers of the Declaration of Independence, in 1776, began a revolution which led to the formation of the United States of America. This Revolution was rooted in the belief that all people are subject to the rule of God, even the King; and leaders are not above man’s law or God’s Law. Also, everyone is endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights.

Many people have tried to deny that America's founders created a country which wove together the concept of self-governance with Christian principles. Now, it appears the focus, of many political and church leaders, is to eliminate ideas, laws, policies, and objects that relate America to Christianity, the Bible, or anything that smacks of God. Today, this focus away from God is succeeding. We all need to hear what our founders said regarding America’s Christian base.

Not long after the enactment of the Constitution in the late 1700s, morality and church attendance declined drastically into a Spiritual Depression. The answer to this 1700s turn away from God became the nationwide implementation of "Concerts of Prayer", across all Christian denominations, which led to an American Spiritual Awakening.

Today, through our actions, laws, and cultural revisions of our founding Christian principles, we have told God that we do not want Him around. Therefore, we must consider what God said He would do and what He has done in the past when people have turned away from Him, as told in Psalms 2:1-2,5,10-12: “Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD and against his Anointed . . . Then he will speak to them in his wrath, and terrify them in his fury, saying . . . Now therefore, O kings, be wise; be warned, O rulers of the earth. Serve the LORD with fear and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and you perish in the way, for his wrath is quickly kindled. Blessed are all who take refuge in him.". In the past, as indicated in Psalms 2, God has withdrawn His presence, including His protection and divine wisdom, when people have turned away from Him. God’s presence has guided America for so many years, and the withdrawal of God’s presence in America would leave us to reap the consequences of our focus away from Him.

Also, consider what the Lord said, in Ezekiel 22:30-31: "And I sought for a man among them who should build up the wall and stand in the breach before me for the land, that I should not destroy it, but I found none. Therefore, I have poured out my indignation upon them. I have consumed them with the fire of my wrath. I have returned their way upon their heads, declares the Lord God.”.

However, in Zechariah 1:3 and in many other promises throughout the Bible, God says to his people in the past and to us today: “Therefore say to them, Thus declares the LORD of hosts: ‘Return to me’, says the LORD of hosts, ‘and I will return to you’, says the LORD of hosts.". Will you "Stand in the Gap”, on behalf of your country, to participate in and lead a Great Awakening and Spiritual Renewal in America by returning America to God?

We must have a Spiritual Awakening to return America to God.

TODAY’S PRAYER: Lord, I come this day inviting you to cut those deeply entrenched chains that keep me from being faithful to my true self in Christ. In doing so, may my life be a blessing to many. Is Your Faith Yours, or Is Your Faith a Faith Derivative of the Faith of Others? MESSAGE SUMMARY : We first believed because of what our parents taught us; but then we heard for ourselves, and we believed. You and cannot live on another’s faith in Jesus – With regards to faith, “God has no grandchildren”, only His Children; therefore, your Salvation comes only from your faith and not the faith of others . Each of us must hear for ourselves and come to the Lord in our own faith. As Paul tells us in Romans 10:16- 17: “ But they have not all obeyed the gospel. Jesus Says “Self-Denial” Is Required of Jesus Followers: “let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me" MESSAGE SUMMARY: In a time in which we hear so much about self-help, self-image, and self-actualization, Jesus is saying self-denial is the way to life . Jesus tells us, in Matthew 16:24, that self-denial is a key element in following Him : “ Then Jesus told his disciples, ‘If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me .’". “Taking up one’s cross” means to die to self-ambitions. When we die to our self-ambitious and put them on the cross, Jesus’ life moves through us: “ Not my will but Thy will .”. By denying self, we become alive in Jesus; and His Spirit flows through us – we experience eternal life and abundant life. TODAY’S PRAYER : Lord, everything in me resists following you into the garden of Gethsemane to fall on my face to the ground before you. Jesus Followers Are Expected, by God, to Confess their Sins and Plead for Forgiveness {Penitence} Real Time MESSAGE SUMMARY: Penitence is not a once in a lifetime occurrence. Penitence is a daily and moment by moment, real time, occurrence . None of us is perfect, and not one of us always does the will of God. Paul, in Romans 2:4-5 , is unequivocal in establishing the need for your continuing penitence and the consequences of your not repenting of your sins on a real-time basis: “ Or do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God's kindness is meant to lead you to repentance? But because of your hard and impenitent heart you are storing up wrath for yourself on the day of wrath when God's righteous judgment will be revealed .". Therefore, we all need to repent and return to the Lord. You can become cocky and arrogant in your spiritual life – “I am a Christian; God has done this for me.”. As the Psalmist tells us in Psalms 32: 5 of his confession and his penitence : “ I acknowledged my sin to you, and I did not cover my iniquity; I said, ‘I will confess my transgressions to the LORD,’ and you forgave the iniquity of my sin .". You can rest on our perceived laurels; but these perceptions, of personal goodness and righteousness, can lead you quickly to a need for your penitence . TODAY’S PRAYER : Most merciful God I confess that I have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what I have done, and by what I have left undone. I have not loved you with my whole heart; I have not loved my neighbors as myself. I am truly sorry and I humbly repent. For the sake of your son Jesus Christ, have mercy on me and forgive me; that I might delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of Your Name. Amen. TODAY’S AFFIRMATION : Today, because of I am filled with the Holy Spirit, I will not be controlled by my Insensitivity . God Loves You No Matter What You Have Done or Said About God – You Cannot Separate Yourself from God’s Love MESSAGE SUMMARY : N o one, including you, can separate you from the love of God . While we were and are still sinners, Jesus the Christ died for us. God loves you exactly where you are; God loves you no matter what you said about Him; and He loves you no matter what you have done. In Romans 5:8-11, Paul confirms God’s unconditional love for us : “ but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God. God Is Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit, and You Pray to One Triune Being – God, the Creator of the Universe MESSAGE SUMMARY : In Mark 8:29 , Jesus asked His Disciples the question He asks you: “ And he asked them, ‘But who do you say that I am?’ Peter answered him, ‘You are the Christ {Messiah} .’". As Paul writes in Ephesians 4:1-6: “ There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call— one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. But grace was given to each one of us according to the measure of Christ's gift. ”. God IS Father , IS Son, and He IS Holy Spirit . Jesus told the crowd in the Temple; and He tells us, as it is recorded for us now by the Apostle John, in John 10:25,30 : “ Jesus answered them, ‘I told you, and you do not believe. The works that I do in my Father's name bear witness about me . . . I and the Father are one .’”. Jesus Explained that His Followers Would Both Pray and Fast, and Prayer and Fasting Are Matters of Heart Between His Followers and God MESSAGE SUMMARY: There are times when you need clarity, understanding, knowledge and insights from God about the specific issues that you are facing . In your personal relationship with God, the Lord will speak to you; but sometimes it takes both your listening and fasting to hear Him . Jesus, in Matthew 6:18 , was speaking to the Apostles as well as those gathered for His “Sermon on the Mount” where he explained that praying and fasting are matters of the heart between Jesus Followers and God. Jesus assumes that his followers will fast : " that your fasting may not be seen by others but by your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you. Lay Up Treasures in Heaven .”. Also, when Joel received a Word when the land was to be destroyed, he called a fast (i.e. Joel 1:14) : “ Consecrate a fast; call a solemn assembly. Gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land to the house of the LORD your God, and cry out to the LORD .”. Some things you are facing in your life must be dealt with by both prayer and fasting. Fasting releases a spiritual power – in your weakness, God is made strong in your life . Daniel’s prayer, from Daniel 9:3-5, provides a context for asking direction from God: “ Then I turned my face to the Lord God, seeking him by prayer and pleas for mercy with fasting and sackcloth and ashes. I prayed to the LORD my God and made confession, saying, ‘O Lord, the great and awesome God, who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, we have sinned and done wrong and acted wickedly and rebelled, turning aside from your commandments and rules .’". TODAY’S PRAYER : Lord, you know how difficult it is for me to be in silence before you. At times it feels almost impossible, given the demands, distractions, and noise all around me. I invite you to lead me to a quiet, silent place before you — to a place where I can hear you as Elijah did. In Jesus’ name, amen . Scazzero, Peter . God Gives a Jesus Follower’s Life Meaning and Purpose, Satisfies their Hunger to Know Their Life’s Purpose, and Forgives Their Sins MESSAGE SUMMARY: As Jesus tells us in John 15:12-14, that you, as His follower, are His “friend : “ This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends .". God became flesh, and He dwelt among us. God became human to draw you into a personal relationship with Him. In John 1:14, the Apostle John identifies Jesus as the “Son of the Father”: “ And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth .". God alone can satisfy the meaning and purpose of your life . God alone can satisfy your hunger to know your life’s meaning. Most importantly, God alone can give you forgiveness of your sins as Paul tells us in Colossians 2:13-14 : “ And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross .". Jesus’ life, miracles, death, and His Resurrection are invitations to a life-long personal relationship with God, the Creator of the Universe. Our personal relationship with God is through His gift, to Jesus Followers, of the Holy Spirit . TODAY’S PRAYER : Lord, help me to grab hold of you today. I need you. Set me free to begin reorienting my life around you, and you alone. Help me to pay attention to and honor how you have uniquely made me. Thank you for the gift of rest. In Jesus’ name, amen. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.” The woman said to him, ‘I know that Messiah is coming (he who is called Christ). The father desires the kind of worshipers that worship in the Holy Spirit and worshipers that worship in Truth – not a façade but a reality and an honesty before God . MESSAGE SUMMARY: We modern-day Christians are bad about living in our bitterness towards others whom we believe have “wronged us” . However, in Luke 23:33-34, Jesus set the example and His expectations for the “forgiveness of others” when He sacrificed Himself on cross for us : “ And when they came to the place that is called The Skull, there they crucified him, and the criminals, one on his right and one on his left. And Jesus said, ‘Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.’ And they cast lots to divide his garments .". We are great at putting on our Christian face for the public. On the other hand, we have someone in our lives, when even their name is mentioned, we become hateful and bitter towards this person in our actions and words. Your financial issues, your debt, your health issues, and your sins are not too big for God . God is faithful , and He is trustworthy . Why not take, to God, all those things in your life that are creating anxiety? Are the Ten Commandments , God’s Law which He Gave to Us, Becoming Irrelevant for America? MESSAGE SUMMARY: Today, are we saying that the Ten Commandments are irrelevant for America? Are the Ten Commandments becoming illegal in America? If so, why? As a nation, we no longer teach or practice the Ten Commandments . We have made it illegal to post the Ten Commandments , which are God’s Law to us, on most walls of our courts and government schools. From a spiritual perspective, how can God, the Creator of the Universe, bless a nation which mocks and/or ignores Him? God Blesses You in Your Obedience, but God Leaves You to the Consequences of Your Sin in Your Disobedience MESSAGE SUMMARY : Your relationship with God is only between you and God. God desires relationships with each of us, individually, even though you may have been fortunate enough to have a Godly mother, father, siblings, and/or a spouse. Jesus Gave His Followers the Holy Spirit to Walk with Them in Their Personal Relationship with God MESSAGE SUMMARY : Isaiah tells us about Jesus Followers’ communications with the Holy Spirit in Isaiah 30:21 : " And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, ‘This is the way, walk in it,’ when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left .". We know, from the New Testament, that Jesus Followers are given the Holy Spirit to walk with them -- "a voice behind you". Since the Holy Spirit takes up residence in you, the way the Lord speaks to you is through the inward witness of the Holy Spirit -- the Spirit will speak, and you will know that it is the Lord . In John 14:26 , Jesus reminds us about His promise, to His followers, of the “ Helper ” (Holy Spirit): “ But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you .”. Additionally, in John 16-7 , Jesus tells us that not only will the Holy Spirit be your “ Helper ”, the Holy Spirit will be your “ Comforter ”: “ Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you .". Jesus Followers Have Eternal Life, Even Before their Earthly Death, Because Whoever “ believes him {God} who sent me {Jesus}” MESSAGE SUMMARY : First, the moment you become a Jesus Follower, you have immediate Eternal Life ; and you become a Citizen of Heaven . Jesus tells us, in John 5:24 , that His followers have Eternal Life and are Citizens of Heaven here on earth living their earthly lives: “ Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life .". As Christians and Citizens of Heaven, we know that the Lord is coming back -- either to greet us when we die or before we die at His Second Coming. For most of us, however, our vision of Heaven is clouded by looking backwards; therefore, the return of Jesus does not have any power in our life . Paul reinforces the return of the Lord of Heaven in Philippians 1:6: “ And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ .". When Jesus returns, we will put on our spiritual bodies, as promised. As Jesus tells us in Matthew 4:17 : “ From that time Jesus began to preach, saying, ‘Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand .’”. Jesus Followers Know the Cornerstone of Christianity Is: “ I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me ” MESSAGE SUMMARY : Jesus is The Door and The Gate by which you must enter the Kingdom of God . In John 14:6-7 , Jesus answers a question by the Apostle Thomas with the fundamental tenant of Christianity when He tells us all: “ Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him .’". Also, in John 10:9-10 , Jesus tells us: “ I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture. The thief {Satan} comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly ." Also, Jesus said, in Matthew 7:13-14, that He was "the Narrow Gate", and whomever enters the Kingdom through Him will be saved and have Eternal Life : {You} “ Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few .". Jesus’ Crucifixion and Resurrection are the events, of about two thousand years ago, that provided us all, by God’s Grace, with access to The Narrow Gate , which is Jesus. Through Jesus’ death on the cross for your sins and His Resurrection, He has given you eternal life, if you choose to enter The Narrow Gate . You may ask: “How do I enter this ‘Narrow Gate’ of Jesus?”. By God’s Grace you can enter Eternal Life, through Jesus, by your true belief and faith in Jesus as God along with your prayerful confession of your sins to God . With your belief, faith, and confession, you have entered through the narrow and only door to your Salvation. Since Your Judgment Is Coming, Are You Doing All You Can to Continue Growing Your Relationship with God? MESSAGE SUMMARY: Jesus tells you about the certainty of your Judgment in John 5:25,29 : “ Truly, truly, I say to you, an hour is coming, and is now here, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live . . . and come out, those who have done good to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil to the resurrection of judgment .". Since Judgment is coming, are you doing all you can to keep your relationship with the Lord growing? Are You Prepared to Face Your Death? Have You Prepared Your Family for Your Death and Led them on a Path to Their Eternal Life? MESSAGE SUMMARY: Most of us do not like to think about and plan for death, especially our own. However, Paul in. Romans 6:23, made your life and death position very clear : “ For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord .". As part of your preparations for eternity, you should take one time each year to evaluate and to reflect on your position for facing death and realizing eternal life by identifying those changes that you must make in your life and in your relationship with God . This preparation for your death will be a blessing for you and your family. Are you prepared to face your death? Will you have eternal life? What about those you leave behind – are you being a good steward? Also, what about your family? Is your family prepared for your earthly death and their earthly death; and have you led your family on a path to receive their eternal life? Pray for God’s Healing Grace Because Jesus “ spoke to them of the kingdom of God and cured those who had need of healing ” MESSAGE SUMMARY: Jesus knows the aches and wounds of your soul, and He wants to bring you healing . Jesus does not want you living in pain, heartache, or emptiness. The Apostle Luke tells you, in Luke 9:10-11 , that Jesus wants to cure those who need His healing : “ On their return the apostles told him all that they had done. And he took them and withdrew apart to a town called Bethsaida. When the crowds learned it, they followed him, and he welcomed them and spoke to them of the kingdom of God and cured those who had need of healing .". We are in an “instant society”, but healing is a process; and your healing may take a long time. Sometimes God wants you to wait, or He may see your need for healing differently from your perspective. However, in your personal relationship with God, you must pray and ask for His healing. People Living Lives in which Sin Is Normal Are Missing the Peace and Fruits of the Holy Spirit MESSAGE SUMMARY : In our world, today, people say that it is OK to sin, but sinning is not OK because if you are sinning, the Holy Spirit is not in you. If you are filled with the Holy Spirit, then the fruit of the Holy Spirit will be present in your life . You cannot exhibit the fruit of the flesh , sin, and be filled with the Holy Spirit. All Have Temptation, Which Is Not the Sin; But Jesus Followers Can Resist All Temptation Through Their Faith and Relationship with God MESSAGE SUMMARY: You will be tempted again and again, but the temptation itself is not the sin. The sin resides in your grabbing onto the temptation; dwelling on the temptation; and following through on the temptation . Jesus was tempted, and He {Jesus} always faced temptation by quoting scripture to the temptation source. As Jesus tells you about Temptation and sin in Matthew 18:7-8 : “ Woe to the world for temptations to sin! For it is necessary that temptations come, but woe to the one by whom the temptation comes! And if your hand or your foot causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life crippled or lame than with two hands or two feet to be thrown into the eternal fire. ". From James 1:13 , we know that God does not create the temptation we face : “ Let no one say when he is tempted, ‘I am being tempted by God,’ for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one .". Since all are tempted, it is great to know, from 1 Corinthians 10:13, that Jesus Followers will not be tempted beyond their capability to resist the temptation and act on it through sinning : “ No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it ." You can follow Jesus’ example by using scripture to deal with a temptation – there is scripture to deal with every temptation that you may face . Is Your Faith Yours, or Is Your Faith Really the Faith of Others? MESSAGE SUMMARY : We first believed because of what our parents taught us; but then we heard for ourselves, and we believed. You and cannot live on another’s faith in Jesus – With regards to faith, “God has no grandchildren”, only His Children; therefore, your Salvation can only come from your faith and not the faith of others . Each of us must hear for ourselves and come to the Lord in our own faith. As Paul tells us in Romans 10:16- 17: “ But they have not all obeyed the gospel. Jesus tells us, in Matthew 16:24, that self-denial is a key element in following Him : “ Then Jesus told his disciples, ‘If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me .’". “ Taking up one’s cross” means to die to self-ambitions and self-appetites. At Times, Are You Unrepentant in Your Spiritual Life and, Therefore, “storing up wrath for yourself on the {Judgement} day of wrath ” ? MESSAGE SUMMARY: Penitence is not a once in a lifetime occurrence. Penitence is a daily and moment by moment occurrence . None of us is perfect, and not one of us always does the will of God . Paul, in Romans 2:4-5, is unequivocal in establishing the need for your continuing penitence and the consequences of your not repenting of your sins on a real-time basis : “ Or do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God's kindness is meant to lead you to repentance? But because of your hard and impenitent heart you are storing up wrath for yourself on the day of wrath when God's righteous judgment will be revealed .". Therefore, we all need to repent and return to the Lord. You can become cocky and arrogant in your spiritual life – “I am a Christian; God has done this for me.”. As the Psalmist tells us in Psalms 32: 5 of his confession and his penitence : “ I acknowledged my sin to you, and I did not cover my iniquity; I said, ‘I will confess my transgressions to the LORD,’ and you forgave the iniquity of my sin .". You can rest on our perceived laurels; but these perceptions, of personal goodness and righteousness, can lead you quickly to a need for your penitence . Jesus Asks: “ But who do you say that I am ?” and Jesus Answers: “ you will know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you ” MESSAGE SUMMARY : In Mark 8:29 , Jesus asked His Disciples the question He asks you: “ And he asked them, ‘But who do you say that I am?’ Peter answered him, ‘You are the Christ {Messiah} .’". As Paul writes in Ephesians 4:1-6: “ There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call— one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. But grace was given to each one of us according to the measure of Christ's gift. ”. God IS Father , IS Son, and He IS Holy Spirit . Daniel’s Prayer Was “ seeking him {God} by prayer and pleas for mercy with fasting . . . ‘O Lord, the great and awesome God . . . we have sinned and done wrong’ ” MESSAGE SUMMARY: There are times when you need clarity, understanding, knowledge and insights from God about the specific issues that you, your family, your church, or your country are facing . In your personal relationship with God as a Jesus Follower, the Lord will speak to you; but sometimes it takes your listening and fasting to hear Him . For example, when Joel received a Word when the land was to be destroyed, he called a fast (i.e. Joel 1:14) : “ Consecrate a fast; call a solemn assembly. Gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land to the house of the LORD your God, and cry out to the LORD .”. Some things you are facing in your life must be dealt with by both prayer and fasting. Fasting releases a spiritual power – in your weakness, God is made strong in your life . Daniel’s prayer, from Daniel 9:3-5, provides a context for asking direction from God : “ Then I turned my face to the Lord God, seeking him by prayer and pleas for mercy with fasting and sackcloth and ashes. God Became Human to Enable Jesus Followers to Have a Personal Relationship with Him through His Grace and Gift of the Holy Spirit MESSAGE SUMMARY: As Jesus tells us in John 15:12-14, that you, as His follower, are His “friend : “ This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends .". God became flesh, and He dwelt among us. God became human to draw you into a personal relationship with Him. In John 1:14, the Apostle John identifies Jesus as the “Son of the Father”: “ And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth .". God alone can satisfy the meaning and purpose of your life. God alone can satisfy your hunger to know your life’s meaning. Most importantly, God alone can give you forgiveness of your sins as Paul tells us in Colossians 2:13-14 : “ And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross .". Jesus’ life, miracles, death, and His resurrection are invitations to a life-long personal relationship with God, the Creator of the Universe. Our personal relationship with God is through His gift, to followers of Jesus, of the Holy Spirit. TODAY’S PRAYER : Surely it is God who saves me. I will trust in Him and not be afraid. Jesus Followers Reach Out to God When Fear and Anxiety Seek to Take Hold of Life Because They Have a Personal Relationship with the Universe’s Creator MESSAGE SUMMARY: Your problems are not too big for God because God is faithful and Sovereign . Your financial issues, your debt, your health issues, and your sins are not too big for God. God is faithful, and He is trustworthy. Why not take, to God, all those things in your life that are creating your anxiety? In Psalms 9:9- 10, the Psalmist encourages you to put your trust in God : “ The LORD is a stronghold for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. And those who know your name put their trust in you, for you, O LORD, have not forsaken those who seek you .". How Can a Society or Government Function When the Foundation of the Ten Commandments Is Being Removed MESSAGE SUMMARY: Today, are we saying that the Ten Commandments are irrelevant for America? Are the Ten Commandments becoming illegal in America? If so, why? As a nation, we no longer teach or practice the Ten Commandments. We have made it illegal to post God’s Law to us, the Ten Commandments, on most walls of our courts and government schools . From a spiritual perspective, how can God, the Creator of the Universe, bless a nation which mocks and/or ignores Him? Paul, in Galatians 6:6-7 , cautions us, both as individuals and nations, regarding the mocking of God : “ Let the one who is taught the word share all good things with the one who teaches. From a practical perspective, how can a society and a government function when their foundation has been removed? Our form of government was founded on the ethical base of the Ten Commandments. For Jesus Followers, Who Would Follow Him – “whoever does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me” MESSAGE SUMMARY: You need to submit our life preferences to the God. By submitting your life preferences to the Lord, He can help you to understand the life path that your preferences will lead . Paul, in 1 Corinthians 9:24, tells us that our Life Preferences need an overarching focus: “ Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it .". Life preferences are not, necessarily, sins; but they can close doors in your life. In Matthew 10:37-39 , Jesus provides a context from which we can assess life preference choices : “ Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. God Speaks to Jesus Followers Through the Holy Spirit’s Inward Voice, and with the Spirit, He Gave His Personal Relationship MESSAGE SUMMARY : Isaiah tells us in Isaiah 30:21 : " And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, ‘This is the way, walk in it,’ when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left .". We know, from the New Testament, that Jesus Followers are given the Holy Spirit to walk with them -- " a word behind you ". Since the Holy Spirit takes up residence in you, the way the Lord speaks to you is through the inward witness of the Holy Spirit -- the Spirit will speak, and you will know that it is the Lord . In John 14:26 , Jesus reminds us about His promise, to His followers, of the “ Helper ” (Holy Spirit): “ But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you .”. Additionally, in John 16-7 , Jesus tells us that not only will the Holy Spirit be your “ Helper ”, the Holy Spirit will be your “ Comforter ”: “ Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him {the Comforter} unto you .". For Jesus Followers, God speaks through the inward voice of the Holy Spirit who He gave to us along with a personal relationship with Him. Abraham provides you with a model for a “ Prayer Life ” that works. Abraham was an awesome man, and he had things happen in his life that were both important for him and humankind down through the ages as a resultant of his “Prayer Life” . One of the first things Abraham did, when he went to a new location or was in a new situation, was to build an altar to the Lord and call on the Lord's name in prayer . In Our Suffering, Economic Uncertainty, and Health Crises, You Can Still Rejoice as a Jesus Follower Because Jesus has Made You His Own MESSAGE SUMMARY : By accepting Jesus, you can be born of the Holy Spirit and have your sins forgiven by His sacrificial death on the cross, through God’s Grace . Paul explains, in Philippians 3:9b-12, that Jesus “has made me His own” : ‘ but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith— that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, that by any means possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead. Is Your Life Driven by Anxiety, or Do You Walk with the Holy Spirit Who Is Working Out God’s Purpose in Your Life? MESSAGE SUMMARY : Where is God’s involvement in your life ? God’s “life interventions”, in your life, can provide either a success or a setback. For example, we lose a job; or we get a job. God can turn our world upside down. It is not that we have done anything wrong; it is the Holy Spirit working out God’s purpose in your life. We need to hear what the Angels said in Mathew 1:20: “ an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, ‘Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit .’”; and we need to hear what Jesus said in Mathew 6:34 : “ Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow , for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Anxiety Is Never a Helpful Lens for Your Life’s Focus – “ Do not be anxious about your life . . . seek his kingdom” MESSAGE SUMMARY: Put a name on the cause of your anxiety and offer it to the Lord in prayer . Anxiety is never a helpful lens though which to focus your life. To Become Jesus Followers : “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” MESSAGE SUMMARY : Every time you lie or cheat or lust or get stoned, you put a barrier between yourself and God because God is Holy . God’s Holiness prevents Him from communing with sinners . The author of 1 John tells us in 1 John 3:8 : “ Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil .". God brought Jesus, who was both God and man, to live on earth. A Prior “ Independence Day Devotional ” as We Prepare to Celebrate Again - We Must Have a Great Spiritual Awakening that Returns America to God MESSAGE SUMMARY : Will you "Stand in the Gap" and participate in a Great Awakening and Spiritual Renewal in America? The signers of the Declaration of Independence, in 1776, began a revolution which led to the formation of the United States of America. This Revolution was rooted in the belief that all people are subject to the rule of God, even the King; and leaders are not above man’s law or God’s Law. Also, everyone is endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights. Many people have tried to deny that America's founders created a country which wove together the concept of self-governance with Christian principles. Now, it appears the focus, of many political and church leaders, is to eliminate ideas, laws, policies, and objects that relate America to Christianity, the Bible, or anything that smacks of God. Today, this focus away from God is succeeding . We all need to hear what our founders said regarding America’s Christian base. Not long after the enactment of the Constitution in the late 1700s, morality and church attendance declined drastically into a Spiritual Depression . The answer to this 1700s turn away from God became the nationwide implementation of "Concerts of Prayer", across all Christian denominations, which led to an American Spiritual Awakening. Today, through our actions, laws, and cultural revisions of our founding Christian principles, we have told God that we do not want Him around . Therefore, we must consider what God said He would do and what He has done in the past when people have turned away from Him, as told in Psalms 2 : 1-2,5,10-12 : “ Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD and against his Anointed . . . Then he will speak to them in his wrath, and terrify them in his fury, saying . . . Now therefore, O kings, be wise; be warned, O rulers of the earth. Serve the LORD with fear and rejoice with trembling . Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and you perish in the way, for his wrath is quickly kindled. Blessed are all who take refuge in him .". In the past, as indicated in Psalms 2, God has withdrawn His presence, including His protection and divine wisdom, when people have turned away from Him. God’s presence has guided America for so many years, and the withdrawal of God’s presence in America would leave us to reap the consequences of our focus away from Him. Also, consider what the Lord said, in Ezekiel 22:30-31 : " And I sought for a man among them who should build up the wall and stand in the breach before me for the land, that I should not destroy it, but I found none. Therefore, I have poured out my indignation upon them. I have consumed them with the fire of my wrath. I have returned their way upon their heads, declares the Lord God .”. However, in Zechariah 1:3 and in many other promises throughout the Bible, God says to his people in the past and to us today: “ Therefore say to them, Thus declares the LORD of hosts: ‘Return to me’, says the LORD of hosts, ‘and I will return to you’, says the LORD of hosts .". Will you "Stand in the Gap”, on behalf of your country, to participate in and lead a Great Awakening and Spiritual Renewal in America by returning America to God? We must have a Spiritual Awakening to return America to God . The Old Testament Law of “ an eye for an eye ” Was Reversed by Jesus in His “Great Commandment” in which Jesus Followers Are “ to Love ” MESSAGE SUMMARY: Jesus turned the prior teachings of the Law on their heels by commanding that personal relationships be based on “Love” not “Law and Justice” . Prior to the New Covenant of Jesus the Christ, the Jewish Law included " an eye for an eye . . . ". Jesus, in Matthew 5:38-39, provides the cornerstone of His Greatest Commandment – “ love thy neighbor as thy self ” when He tells us: “ You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ But I say to you, Do not resist the one who is evil. But if anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also .”. The Old Testament Law was for the Judges to help the courts punish people in an appropriate and consistent way. As a Jesus Follower, God calls you just as He called the Prophet Isaiah in Isaiah 6:8 : “ And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?’ Then I said, ‘Here am I! Send me .’”. Therefore, as a Jesus Follower, you should be asking the question: “Am I ready for something spiritual to happen in my life; am I dressed and ready for His service?”. God could care less about your money. God is concerned about your heart. Jesus Followers “ Know God ”, which Is “ Eternal Life ”, Because they Have a Personal Relationship with God MESSAGE SUMMARY : Your personal relationship with God, and knowing Him in your life, renders everything else in your life insignificant. Knowing God and having that personal relationship with Him, through your prayer life, is summarized in John 17:3: “ And this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent .". Many “Christians” Are Unwilling to Come to the God in Penitence to Repent; They Do Not Have the “ fire of God ” or the Holy Spirit’s Engagement MESSAGE SUMMARY : We must maintain constant repentance with the Lord. Every relationship in our life is a day-by-day journey; therefore, our relationship with the Lord is, also, a continuous journey. In 2 Corinthians 7:10 , Paul succinctly describes the difference between “ grief ” and “ sorrow ” for our sinful actions and true repentance : “ For godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret, whereas worldly grief produces death .". God can show us those things, in our lives, that He wants us to do or not do. Some of us have the “pilot light lit” because we have asked Jesus to bring the Holy Spirit into our lives; however, the “furnace isn’t engaged”. The “fire of God” is not in our lives because we are not willing to come to the Lord in penitence and to repent . Jesus Followers Should Fear, Respect, and Praise God’s Power, Sovereignty, and Holiness; but in Life’s Trials They Should “ fear not for I {Jesus} am with you always ” MESSAGE SUMMARY: You should fear, respect, and praise God’s power, Sovereignty, and Holiness ; but, as a Jesus Follower, you should “fear not” in life’s trials and tribulations or at your time of judgment . As David’s praise tells us in Psalms 103:13 : “As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear Him .”. David models again and again, in Psalms, how we should praise God. For example, in Psalms 146, David says: " Put not your trust in Princes; Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord, Oh my soul !". When we are wondering how to praise the Lord, we can read one of David’s Psalms to God like David’s praises to the Lord in Psalms 112:1-2 : “ Blessed is the man who fears the LORD, who greatly delights in his commandments! His offspring will be mighty in the land; the generation of the upright will be blessed .". Also, we learn in Proverbs 1:7, the “ fear of the Lord ” and “ wisdom ” are closely linked: “ The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction .". These verses from the Old Testament point to the fear, respect, and praise that God warrants and demands from His power, sovereignty, and Holiness . On the other hand, as we see when the Apostle John quotes Jesus from Revelation 1:17-18 , when Jesus, in all His power and Glory, reassures us of God’s Grace and His plan for working out the Salvation and Eternal Life for all those that have accepted Jesus as their Savior : “ When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. But he laid his right hand on me, saying, ‘Fear not, I am the first and the last, and the living one. I died, and behold I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of Death and Hades .’”. To Become a Follower of Jesus, You Must Have Faith; and Your Faith Comes From YOU Hearing God’s Word MESSAGE SUMMARY : Others to whom you minister, such as your children and friends, can her about the Lord and the Gospel from you – for the first time or in reinforcement; but they must hear for themselves and believe for themselves to be saved . Jesus Followers Need to Acknowledge the Sufficiency of Jesus, Through Praise, Irrespective of Our Trials and Problems MESSAGE SUMMARY : Some of us and some of our acquaintances have gone through horrendous circumstances. Therefore, we ask, given these circumstances, how can we rejoice in the Lord? Paul tells us, in 2 Corinthians 12:10, that Jesus Followers need to acknowledge the sufficiency of Jesus, through praise and thanksgiving, irrespective of our trials and problems : “ For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities . For when I am weak, then I am strong .". To fulfill God’s exhortation “to rejoice always”, you can rejoice “always” if you keep your eyes on Jesus. David tells us, in Psalm 30:4, to: “Sing praises to the LORD, O you his saints, and give thanks to his holy name. For his anger is but for a moment, and his favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning .”. Paul instructs us for continuous thanksgiving in 1 Thessalonians 5:16-19 : “ Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. Do not quench the Spirit .". TODAY’S PRAYER : Father, I confess that when difficulties and trials come into my life, large or small, I mostly grumble and complain. I realize the trials James talks about are not necessarily “walls,” but they are difficult to bear, nonetheless. How You Respond to Jesus, In Your Earthly Life, Will Determine How You Are Judged By Jesus MESSAGE SUMMARY : Jesus claimed to be the unique, divine Son of God; therefore, Jesus is on an equal footing with God. Jesus said that He would one day judge the world . How you respond to Jesus, in your life, will determine how you are judged . The Apostle John summarizes, in John 20:27-29 , the interchange between Jesus and the Apostle Thomas when Thomas realizes who Jesus, the man that he had been following for years, is: “ Then he said to Thomas, ’Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side. Jesus Tells Us that “ Eternal Life ” Begins Immediately Upon Receipt of the Holy Spirit, Even Before Your “ Physical Death ” MESSAGE SUMMARY : Jesus has promised “ that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal lif e.” ( John 3:16b ). In John 5:24 , Jesus tells you that when you receive the Spirit during your earthly life, your eternal life has begun in your earthly life even before your physical death : “ Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life .”. Also, in John 6:40 , Jesus promises: “ this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life , and I will raise him up on the last day.”. What is eternal life ? In John 17:2b-3 , Jesus defines eternal life : “ since you have given him authority over all flesh, to give eternal life to all whom you have given him. Therefore, eternal life is the ability to know God and to have an intimate personal relationship with God, the Creator of the Universe . When you come into your belief in Jesus and confess your sins to God, then Jesus baptizes you with the Holy Spirit; and you begin your new life and service in His kingdom. Also, remember that when you receive the Spirit, your eternal life has begun even before your physical death . Are You a Part of What God Is Doing in Our Country Today? Do You Seek God’s Presence in Your Life? MESSAGE SUMMARY : Can you tell what God is up to in the World, in our time, in our church, and in America? Are you a part of what God is doing in the world today, or are you just reacting to what God is doing, thereby, creating conflict and division? Psalms 105 reminds you of God’s power in the world if you do seek His presence in your life: “ Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually! Remember the wondrous works that he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he uttered .". At Jesus’ Crucifixion and Death, the “Temple Veil” Was Torn; After Jesus Easter Resurrection, You Now Pray Directly with God MESSAGE SUMMARY : Think about the magnitude of your direct and personal access to God that your prayers give you, through Jesus, if you will only pray . Before Jesus, ordinary people did not have direct access to God, through the Throne Room of God, with a direct personal relationship with God. In Old Testament times, people would come to the priests; and the priest would offer up a sacrifice on behalf of the people. The priests, and not the people, were communing directly with God. On Good Friday and at Jesus death on the cross, the “Temple Veil” was torn from top to bottom (i.e. “Temple Vail” was a large, very thick, and very heavy barrier that divided that portion of the Temple accessible by those wishing to sacrifice for prayer and the “Holy of Holies” where the only the High Priest could meet with God and pray on behalf of the people of God.). At Jesus Resurrection, no longer was an intermediary (e.g., a Priest) required for direct prayer with God by the people in Christ (i.e. Jesus Followers ). Because Jesus created a New Covenant relationship with His followers, now your prayers are in direct communion with God, the Creator of the Universe. Everyone, who is in Christ , may have access to the Throne Room of God in the name of Jesus. What a privilege this direct access to God is for those who are in Christ . The author of Hebrews, in Hebrews 4:16 , tells Jesus Followers that, because of the Gospel, you have direct access to God’s “throne of Grace” for your needs: “ Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need .". TODAY’S PRAYER : Keeping the Sabbath, Lord, will require a lot of changes in the way I am living life. Do You Believe that “ He {God} gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life ”? MESSAGE SUMMARY : You have got to believe; but until you get your thinking right, your life will not change – you have got to believe ! It is hard for some people, today, to believe in the miraculous birth of Jesus celebrated on Christmas day. Ok, just start where you are in what you believe . Can you believe that you are a sinner? Can you believe that you are not perfect? Can you believe that you have violated God’s laws? Despite this life background, can you believe that God loves you just as you now are? Can you believe that God sent His Only Son, Jesus, to save all that believe in Him so that you would not perish but have eternal life? Not Righteous Professing Christians Are " Whitewashed Tombstones " - Pretty on the Outside but Dead on the Inside MESSAGE SUMMARY: A righteousness, that comes from your being in communion with the Holy Spirit, is not like a professing Christian who is really just a "whitewashed tombstone" -- pretty on the outside but dead on the inside . Rather, followers of Jesus are called to live righteous lives , as we are instructed by the Psalmist in Psalms 37: 39: “ The salvation of the righteous is from the LORD; he is their stronghold in the time of trouble .". The Messenger of the {New} Covenant {Jesus} Is Coming – Is He Coming to Purify You or to Judge You? MESSAGE SUMMARY : The people, in God’s Judgment articulated in Malachi 3:5, are the people of God. These people are not the unbelievers; these are the people that say they are following God . Malachi 3:5 , articulates those transgressions, including the absence of a “ fear of the lord ”, in which God: “ will draw near to you for judgment. I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, against the adulterers, against those who swear falsely, against those who oppress the hired worker in his wages, the widow and the fatherless, against those who thrust aside the sojourner, and do not fear me, says the LORD of hosts .” To this end, Paul reminds us again in Romans 2:4-5 of a pathway to or away from God’s Judgment : “ Or do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God’s kindness is meant to lead you to repentance? But because of your hard and impenitent heart you are storing up wrath for yourself on the day of wrath when God’s righteous judgment will be revealed .". Additionally, in Proverbs 1:7 we find that the “ fear of the Lord ” provides us with “ wisdom ”. On the other hand and in the absence of our “ fear of the Lord ”, Proverbs 1:7 tells us that we are “foolish”: “ The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction .”. The messenger of the Covenant is coming – He is coming to either purify you or to judge you . TODAY’S PRAYER : Father, I confess that when difficulties and trials come into my life, large or small, I mostly grumble and complain. I realize the trials James talks about are not necessarily “walls,” but they are difficult to bear, nonetheless. Through prayer, you are in God’s Presence; and you can invite His help in your life’s situations. The best way to learn how to have this communion with God is to just do it and use your normal conversational words; however, the words of Scripture are powerful and work strongly. MESSAGE SUMMARY : Can you tell what God is up to in the World, in our time, in our church, and in America? Are you a part of what God is doing in the world today, or are you just reacting to what God is doing, thereby, creating conflict and division? Psalms 105 reminds you of God’s power in the world if you do seek His presence in your life: “ Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually! Remember the wondrous works that he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he uttered .". On the other hand, Paul, in 1 Thessalonians 1:9 , warns you of the implications for not including the presence of Jesus in your worldly considerations: “ They will suffer the punishment of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might .”. When Jesus Asked You: “ Whom do you say that I am ?”, Did You Answer Jesus: “ You are my God and the Lord of my Life !”? MESSAGE SUMMARY: The stories of the New Testament tell us that Jesus was no ordinary man. The Apostle John, in John 1:1-5, points out that Jesus, the Word, was the Creator of the Universe : “ In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it .". John tells us that Jesus had authority over nature, over creation, and over life itself, and he tells us that Jesus was the life-giver that came to earth for us . In John 20:26-29, Jesus asked the Apostle Thomas a fundamental question that Jesus asks you today – “ Jesus said to him, ‘Have you believed because you have seen me? ’”: “ Then he said to Thomas, ‘Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side. Do not disbelieve, but believe.’ Thomas answered him, ‘My Lord and my God!’ Jesus said to him, ‘Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed .’”. When Jesus has asked you: “Whom do you say that I am?”, and how did you answer? Did you tell Jesus: “You are my God and the Lord of my Life!”? Have you, in your life, become a Jesus Follower? If not, why not? Malachi 4 Tells Us God Takes Care of His Own and that Those Who Wait Upon Him and “fear my {God’s} name” Will Not Be Disappointed MESSAGE SUMMARY : Isaiah, in Isaiah 64:3,8 , says that God is the awesome God who created everything : “ When you did awesome things that we did not look for, you came down, the mountains quaked at your presence . . . But now, O LORD, you are our Father; we are the clay, and you are our potter; we are all the work of your hand .”. In Isaiah 65:11-13, Isaiah expresses God’s disappointment in being snubbed by His chosen people, the Jews. However, Isaiah expresses how pleased God is with being welcomed by the Gentiles {my servants}: “’But you who forsake the LORD, who forget my holy mountain, who set a table for Fortune and fill cups of mixed wine for Destiny, I will destine you to the sword, and all of you shall bow down to the slaughter, because, when I called, you did not answer; when I spoke, you did not listen, but you did what was evil in my eyes and chose what I did not delight in.’ Therefore thus says the Lord God: ‘Behold, my servants shall eat, but you shall be hungry; behold, my servants shall drink, but you shall be thirsty; behold, my servants shall rejoice, but you shall be put to shame .’". As a Jesus Follower, You Live in a World of Hurting People; and You Have their Answer - Are You Sharing the Answer with Others? MESSAGE SUMMARY : Even though we are followers of Jesus, we live in a world of hurting people; but we have the answer to their pain . God has blessed us so that we might be a blessing to others, and He has healed us so that we might provide God's healing powers to others. He has saved us so that we might be His ambassadors. While we have the answer, we keep the answer to ourselves in the way we live and by not speaking about Jesus to others . Before Jesus Ascension, He instructed us, in Matthew 28:16-20 , that we must “ Go ” and tell others about the answer , which the Gospel provides, by “ making Disciples ”: “ Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. And when they saw him they worshiped him, but some doubted. And Jesus came and said to them, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me . Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age .’”. Jesus Followers Can Influence and Lead a Return to God by Our People, Churches, and Nation Through the “ Five Exhortations ” MESSAGE SUMMARY: In the Bible, you can find five exhortations, from the God, that are right on point for our times of uncertainty in America: 1) Do not fear; 2) Continue to tithe; 3) Get out of debt; 4) Help our brothers and sisters in need; and 5) Pray . The people in Malachi’s day were withholding what was God’s, and they were paying a price. But even in those conditions of the nation’s sin and faithlessness, God said to the nation, in Malachi 3:7 , “ From the days of your fathers you have turned aside from my statutes and have not kept them. Return to me, and I will return to you, says the LORD of hosts. But you say, ‘How shall we return?’ .”. The Holy Spirit, God’s Personal Relationship Presence, Is Our Life’s Ultimate Counselor and Helper – the Creator of the Universe MESSAGE SUMMARY : Your relationship with God is a continuous and not a one-time event; therefore, followers of Jesus are to be continuously filled with the Holy Spirit, as we are told in Acts 2:3-4 : “ And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance .". We should ask the Lord to fill us with the Holy Spirit every day. You need the continuous refreshing of the Holy Spirit because YOU are a broken vessel – you sin; you get tired; you work hard; you act stupid; and you rebel against God. Be filled with the Holy Spirit now – filled in this moment of the present. Being filled with the Holy Spirit, the presence of God in our lives in a personal relationship, provides us with the ultimate counselor and helper in our life – the Creator of the Universe. Do you ask the Holy Spirit to fill you every day to experience the continuous power of God’s gift ?
