Earthquakes, the Távora Affair, the Marquis of Pombal, French Revolution, Napoleonic Wars. Who was a witness of all of this? Our one and only, Leonor de Almeida, Marquise of Alorna (1750-1839), a remarkable figure that defied the limits imposed to her. Locked in a convent for the first 18 years of her life - after one of the most impressive political scandals of Portugal - she soon broke the walls of her captivity but also of what was expected of her gender. With a life spanning almost over a century, Leonor travels the roads of Europe, always guided by poetry, books, philosophy, trailing the route of the Enlightenment. Oh, and Mozart is there too! On this episode we do something a little different: we follow the lines of the novel that Maria Teresa Horta, another Portuguese poet, wrote about Leonor (who is actually her great-grandmother!). Jump on this journey with us and discover the trials, tribulations but also the poetry in the life of Leonor de Alorna. On this episode you can hear a few hits by Mozart: Mozart - Ave verum corpus, K. 618 - For 5 Flutes (Kamioka) - Fantasia in D minor, K. 397 - Mozart - Piano Concerto No. 15 in B flat major, K450 - II. Andante - Mozart Sonata 2 - II. Adagio - Piano Sonata no. 14, K. 457 - II. Adagio - Requiem in D minor, K. 626 - I. Introitus and II. Kyrie (For Voices and Recorder Ensemble - Papalin) - Requiem in D minor, K. 626 - III. Sequence - Lacrymosa (For Piano - Liszt) - Sinfonia concertante in E-flat major, K.364_320d - - Violin Sonata no. 21, K. 304 #corkouthistorypod #corkouthistory #historypodcast #leonordealmeida #marquesadealorna #alorna #tavoras #tavoraffair #convent #baroque #marquisofpombal #marquesdepombal #eighteenthcentury #lisbonearthquake #baroquehistory #politicalhistory #baroquepolitics #josephI #marquesdepombal #ostavora #enlightenment #mozart
