One hundred years after their exile, the Israelites returned home to Jerusalem but quickly grew indifferent as they waited on the Lord to fulfill his promises. Their attitudes became cynical, their sacrifices became corrupt, and their lives became idolatrous. Honestly, they just didn’t care anymore. So how does God confront this spiritual apathy? Enter the prophet Malachi. Using a back-and-forth dialogue, the Lord speaks through Malachi to call his people out on their sin and call them back to obedience — and it’s a message for God’s people of today as well. When spiritual apathy sets in, we too need to be confronted with the truth.
