An ECFS Productions Original Podcast: Cinema Spectator is a film history podcast that takes away the pretense that usually comes along with learning about film. Each week, we tackle a "classic" of film history but do these films actually hold up for a modern audience? Can they entertain someone who grew up on Spider-Man reboots and Jim Carrey movies, or will they forever be relics of a bygone era?

Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991) is iconic enough that it’s often used as the example for a sequel that’s “better than the original”. Cameron, Isaac and Juzo discuss whether we think that’s the case and how it holds up 34 years later. There is no doubt, however, that the film remains a true masterclass in style and action. Join us for a long discussion about one of the most iconic movies ever made. Cinema Spectator is a movie podcast hosted by Isaac Ransom, Juzo Greenwood, and Cameron Tuttle. The show is executive produced by Darrin O’Neill and recorded & produced in the San Francisco Bay Area, CA. You can support the show at patreon.com/ecfsproductions . Follow us on YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter under ECFS Productions (@ecfsproductions). Isaac and Cameron started recording podcasts with their first project, Everything Comes from Something (2018), and are now focusing on new weekly content for Cinema Spectator. Cameron Tuttle is a full-time professional cinematographer who majored in SFSU Film School to collaborate with corporate, private, and creative productions. Cameron is the expert. Isaac Ransom works full-time as a marketing leader, with creative experience in brand, advertising, product, music, and film. Isaac is the student. And Juzo, he knows everything about cinema. The podcast is a passion project between three longtime friends; we hope you can enjoy our project with the limited time we have! Thank you for your time, your generosity, and support.…

The Terminator (1984) is so ubiquitous that it’s almost forgotten for its more successful sequel. Yet, the film is oozing with style, charm, humor, and a dark sense of dread that it should be remembered more fondly than just “the first one”. James Cameron’s (almost) directorial debut stars Linda Hamilton as Sarah Connor, a struggling waitress suddenly thrust into a battle for the future of humanity. Hunting her down is The Terminator, Arnold Schwarzenegger, a cyborg sent from the future mechanically exterminating every person named Sarah Connor in the phone book. The chase is a pure thrill-ride through and through. If you haven’t seen The Terminator in a while since you liked the sequel better, give it a rewatch. Avatar is a film that hardly needs an introduction, as it is currently the highest grossing movie of all time. It's an incredibly impressive feat to remain so dominant even 16 years later, not to mention the technological achievement needed to create a film that still looks great today. Continuing our dive into James Cameron, we cover The Abyss (1989). Notoriously known as one of the most difficult and dangerous movies ever made, The Abyss follows Bud Brigman (Ed Harris), a civilian deep-see engineer and his crew as they make a dangerous journey to recover a nuclear submarine. Nearly half of the movie is shot underwater, using specialized diving equipment for the crew and cast. Ed Harris was so traumatized by the experience that he refused to talk about the making of the film for many years. One of the unofficial names of the film given by a crewmember is: "Life's Abyss And Then You Dive". Cinema Spectator is a movie podcast hosted by Isaac Ransom, Juzo Greenwood, and Cameron Tuttle. Juzo and Isaac revisit James Cameron’s epic romance-disaster film Titanic (1997), diving into why this box office phenomenon still resonates decades later. The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet as star-crossed lovers aboard the ill-fated RMS Titanic and blends historical tragedy with sweeping melodrama and groundbreaking visual effects. Tune in to Cinema Spectator as the duo debates whether Titanic earns its place among Cameron’s best—or sinks under the weight of its legacy. Today it’s a Double Feature! Kicking off our discussion of the Mission: Impossible franchise, we’re discussing Mission: Impossible and Mission: Impossible II. It’s seriously impressive for a franchise to span nearly 30 years, multiple directors, and plenty of death defying stunts from lead actor Tom Cruise. We look back to the original Brian De Palma film to see the roots of the franchise, and we discuss the much more silly and ridiculous John Woo entry. We continue with the filmography of David Lynch by exploring a lesser known classic; The Straight Story is a movie that has none of the typical hallmarks of a Lynch film, but nonetheless has the essential DNA of what is at the center of many of his movies. The Straight Story is (as its name implies) a very straightforward story about an elderly man longing to see his brother before it’s too late. Starring Richard Farnsworth as the sweet and humble Alvin Straight on his journey to reconcile with his brother. This week we continue our discussion of David Lynch by exploring the strange world of Blue Velvet (1986). The film contrasts the happy-go-lucky and relatively ordinary world of Lumbertown USA with the seedy underbelly brewing underneath its surface.
