Every game is a chance for a designer to pull another trick out of their sleeve. But for a lot of designers, that new trick can often feel like the same trick with a new coat of paint.

Not to say that’s a bad thing, it’s one of the things that keep us coming back for more! But what are some of these tricks? How do designers keep them fresh? Why do we like them so?
