A tough loss on the road to Northwestern College saw some positives according to Buena Vista head wrestling coach Jeff Breese. Episode 32 of the BVU Wrestling BeaverCast features 2017 Hall of Fame inductee Ryan Schweitzberger. Schweitzberger was a four-time letterwinner for current BVU Hall of Fame Coach, Al Baxter, on the wrestling mat. He was a two-time All-American for the Beavers and became the fourth individual national champion in the program's history in 1998 (150 pounds). He also captured his only IIAC individual title that same year. He finished his career with an overall record of 87-27, including a career-best 36 as a senior and was 62-15 over his final two campaigns. Schweitzberger earned a Business Management degree from BVU in 1998 and went on to serve as an assistant coach for the Beavers in 1999-00. He also spent time as a high school assistant coach at Cedar Falls High School from 2001-05. He is currently employed as an Account Executive at Palmer Group and lives in West Des Moines with his wife, Angela. In 1986, Buena Vista finished third at the NCAA Division III Championships. Leading that team was the first finalist in school history, Dan Dresser. A native of Humboldt, Iowa, the Dresser name has been synonymous with success. Dan's older brother Kevin was an NCAA Division I champion at Iowa and was recently named the head coach at Iowa State. In 1989, Dave Jordan became Buena Vista's first NCAA Division III champion by topping Joe Dasti of Kean in the 118-pound finals. On Episode 26 of the BVU Wrestling BeaverCast, we'll visit with Jordan, who is currently the Vice President of Mortgage Lending at Community Choice Credit Union in Clive, Iowa. Jordan was under .500 his junior year in high school before a coaching change at Cedar Falls High School brought him the abilities of Dave Cunningham. The next year, Jordan won a state championship and found himself being sought after by colleges around the state and the region. He settled on Buena Vista because of someone else's trip to the gas station. Jordan has some stories to tell, and not tell, about his teammates from the era. It's a road trip for Buena Vista as the Beaver wrestling squad headed north to Minneapolis for the Auggie-Adidas Open on the campus of Augsburg College. On Episode 24, we'll catch up with Coach Jeff Breese in Minneapolis to get a recap of the Eastern swing at the W&J Open, his thoughts on Thanksgiving Day eating and the tournament format. We'll also meet up with Brian Broll, an alum currently working on his Ph.D at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn.
