Gemma has never understood the culture of not trying hard!
Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death for women and for 20% of patients, there are no known risk factors. Combining a career as one of the 4.5% of Interventional Cardiologists who are female, with a rewarding research career, Gemma says yes a lot and is driven to answer a question her patients regularly ask, “Why me?”.
Together we discuss the power of role models in medicine, two personal life experiences that gave Gemma the confidence to step off the direct path and follow her passions. We also discuss the influence of a wonderful teacher!
