STORY 1

From The Island Packet

May River repeated as Class 4A girls golf state champions on Tuesday. The Sharks fired a two-day total of 628 to win the tournament at the Rose Hill Golf Club. Hilton Head Island was second at 648.

The title was the Sharks’ fourth in program history and second straight. May River’s other titles came in 2020 and 2021. May River’s Robbin Zetrouer was the individual champion, shooting a 147. She is the program’s second individual state champion, joining Claire Green who won it last year.

Seneca’s Ansley Bryson was second at 152.

The Sharks had three golfers earn all-state honors, which is the top-10 and ties. In addition to Zetrouer, Green (154) was fourth and Ava Cunningham (158) tied for seventh. Hilton Head Island had two all-state golfers — Lexi Milbrandt and Harper Hedden. Milbrandt was third at 153 and Hedden tied for seventh at 158.

As early voting reaches its midpoint, turnout in Beaufort County has risen to about 33,000 residents, with Monday marking the highest single-day participation since early voting began last week. Early voting is open from 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday, from Oct. 21 to Nov. 2, according to the county’s website. So far, about 26% of registered voters have cast their ballots, said Marie Smalls, director of the county’s board of voter registration and elections. Statewide, early voting has surged past previous records, with more than 735,000 South Carolinians already casting ballots — surpassing the total early voting turnout from the 2022 general election. Smalls noted that it’s challenging to compare with past years for the county, as this is only the second time South Carolina has offered early voting since 2022. However, she added, “The second week is usually a little higher than the first week, so we’re going to see if that trend continues.”

Early voting patterns have shown the longest lines from 7 to 8 a.m., Smalls said. Midday tends to offer a break, with shorter wait times, though lines pick up again in the early afternoon. Residents who are looking to avoid crowds should go to poll locations around late afternoons, particularly from 5 to 6 p.m., she added.

Story 3

From the Island Packet

A new home has been built in Bluffton, and it’s not just any home — it’s the 2025 HGTV Dream Home, a build that will captivate home enthusiasts nationwide. Described as a “classic southern abode with Lowcountry charm,” the Bluffton home hosts three bedrooms, three bathrooms, a prep kitchen off the main kitchen, a porch off the main bedroom and even a pet washing station in the laundry room.

Shoreline Construction, based in Bluffton, built the home. Court Atkins Group was the architecture firm on the project, and it was designed by TV producer and HGTV interiors specialist Brian Patrick Flynn, according to the HGTV website. Additional details about the home, including dimensions and location, will be available in early December, according to Alexa Butterman, a communications specialist for Warner Bros. Discovery.

Interested fans can sign up to receive daily reminders to enter the giveaway, which starts on Dec. 17 at 9 a.m. EST and ends on Feb. 14, 2025 at 5 p.m. EST. Individuals can enter on the HGTV website by submitting the online entry form, which is limited to one entry per person per day.

The complete rules, including details on when the winner will be selected, will become available on Dec. 17. Public tours and mail-in entries are not available for this years’ house.
