Fragrances are any substance containing olfactory-active chemical components that emit a distinctive, pleasurable odor. They are used as a fragrance component in many manufactured goods. Because our sense of smell and taste rely on similar chemical messengers in the brain, a fragrance ingredient may also serve as a flavoring element. While both flavors and fragrances can employ the same aroma or plant, flavors are subject to distinct regulations and labeling requirements.
