In-house production for the most part by Ilajde with some guest features and a few household names contributing makes this quintet stay sharp as a tack. Flying Lotus Today we discuss hip hop pioneer and scientist flying lotus and his huge and ever growing audience. Hailing from Los Angeles and Great-Grandnephew of Alice and John Coltrane as well as Marilyn McLeod he was seemingly destined to pursue a musical career. In 2006 he released his breakout release "1983" which received a great response. While working on this release he was interning at the pioneering hip hop label Stones Throw Records. Days were spent in their offices, and nights were spent at his grandmothers, working on the music that would become his debut album: 1983. The record (released on LA indie label Plug Research) was an early touchstone for Ellison's eclectic creative mission, forging compressed, spacey and Eastern sounding hip-hop beats, that summoned Madlib as much as Dntel, whilst sampling as far back as 70s Japanese proto-synthpop and 60s jazz harp. It would also feature Laura Darlington, who went on to become a vocal fixture of future albums. Enjoy the show! Thanks for stopping by! Be sure to check out our new Social + page!…

Quote the www.DITCENT.com: Lord Finesse is a legendary MC-turned-producer who has produced tracks for Notorious B.I.G. ("Suicidal Thoughts" off of 1994's Ready to Die) and Dr. Dre ("The Message" off of 1999's 2001). As a young MC, he would travel to any borough in New York to battle their best rapper and win. He shopped his demo to various record labels and eventually dropped the first of several records, his 1990 classic Funky Technician. The record had a few tracks produced by his good friend Diamond (formerly Diamond D), a former member of the rap group Ultimate Force. In the mid-'80s, Diamond D was scratching on turntables at late-night park parties, often competing with area top DJs (Showbiz was once his nemesis.) Diamond also spent time DJing with the world famous Jazzy Jay, whom he first met in 1987. In 1992, Diamond transitioned from DJing to taking on the role of producer and MC, and showcased his diverse talents on his debut album "Stunts, Blunts and Hip Hop". Enjoy!…

Today we discuss the enigmatic emcee and producer that is oddisee. He has been in the game for a long time on the low but has built a great following and is growing steam. Arguably the most versatile music producer the D.C. region, the Sudanese-American composer creates beats for others, he travels the globe six months a year, and his presence was felt back in 2002 on DJ Jazzy Jeff’s Magnificent album. However, Oddisee’s sound is deceptively laidback; his plethora of sounds and palpable use of samples interwoven with live instrumentation add depth and require a certain degree of attention to pick out. Enjoy! Permalink…

Prince Paul Today we discuss the incomparable DJ Prince Paul. I call this man a legend in the game with no hesitation as he has been and still is an innovator and pioneer. During his days with STETSASONIC he was only 17 and was already making major contributions to hip hop by being in the first hip hop band. He also pushed the limits of what hip hop sounded like by using samples from unorthodox records and sound effects which influenced many producers to use other genres of music, than the typical James Brown and Jazz records many other artists were using about that time. Da GraveDiggaz Da Gravediggaz were pinne the inventors of Horrorcore and the Genre has continued to grow, now including many acts such as The Flatlinerz, Hopsin and Tech N9ne. Prince Paul was also a part of the super duo The Handsome Boy Modeling School releasing the dynamic release "So... How's Your Girl?" Now on to the show...…

Their stage names are Trugoy when reversed spells yogurt, because he likes yogurt, and Posdnuos spelled backwards is "sound sop". The DJ's name is Maseo. “ The Source magazine listed the album as one of their top 100 hip hop albums of all time, stating that “its true genius is rarely understood”[citation needed]. There are several major differences between the CD version of this album and the other formats, as the tracks “Johnny’s Dead AKA Vincent Mason”, “My Brother’s a Basehead”, “Kicked Out the House”, and “Who Do U Worship?” are only available on the CD. The limited edition double vinyl promotional copies of the album distributed to the media before the official release did not feature these. ” — The Source…
