Send us a text Teresa is an amazing story teller and I'm so grateful to have learned so much from her all about hearing loss! It's a must listen! Teresa's Bio Teresa Barnes Paulus, RN, is an advocate for hearing awareness. With her personal experience of hearing loss since birth, Teresa has become the go-to expert for organizations looking to tap into a trillion-dollar market by enhancing any organization's social responsibility and culture. After a potentially life-threatening accident for not hearing a warning shout. She saw a need in society as a former Emergency Department RN Manager. Teresa realized the critical lack of accommodations for the hard of hearing in workplaces. She pioneered the federally registered Hearing Hero Friendly Symbol, a tool that boosts safety and awareness while increasing business opportunities and customer satisfaction through specialized training and certification. Based on the Olmec Culture 2500 BC standards where they believed people with hearing loss needed a special way to communicate and wore a jade Olmec symbol to bring visibility to hearing loss. Featured on ESPN BizShow and Good Morning America in San Diego. She drives change with consultancy, keynotes, online courses, and a new book called Be A Hearing Hero to alert others that by 2050, 2.5 billion will have hearing loss unless we change our environments and hearing loss knowledge. Teresa empowers others alongside her service dog, Stella, encouraging everyone to become Hearing Heroes in today's diverse world. For future acceptance and understanding, so no more discrimination against hearing loss, but better inclusion. Hearing Hero Friendly Spaces can allow those with hearing loss to hear others, potentially prevent hearing loss for babies in utero, and provide space for others that need, say, a quieter place to dine that have PTSD, anxiety disorder, autism, or want to save their hearing. Help prevent this health and social issue and reduce stigma, too with with understanding. Send us a text The conversation I had with Carol on this episode was nothing short of amazing! We dove into her being an amazing mom to her two incredible girls, supporting them in all that they loved! This episode is packed full of incredible stories and Carol is a joy to listen to! Tune in and share this episode with everyone you know! Oh and don't forget to go buy her books - links below! Carol's Bio A retired 20-year stay-at-home mom, turned empty nester, turned breast cancer survivor, and now a genre-hopping author, Carol Wyllie is the bestselling creator behind a beloved children's book series and two nonfiction works on breast cancer. Send us a text This conversation with Heather couldn't have come at a better time! This episode was recoreded early January 2025 and I'm so happy we had this conversation before everything in the US happened in later January 2025. This is not a time to stop fighting for our rights, fighting for DEI and all of our friends, family and neighbors around the country and the world! Thank you Heather for what you do in the disability world to help people get meaningful jobs in our workforce and throughout our communities! Colorado is doing a dang good job and we all can learn from them! Heather's Bio Heather Hagen (she/her) proudly serves as the Assistant Director of Employment Services at Developmental Disabilities Resource Center (DDRC) in Colorado. Like many colleagues, Heather fell into the world of supported employment in 2010 by chance and found a passion for helping people pursue their career goals. Heather has had the privilege of experiencing employment services evolve significantly over the past 10+ years and is enthusiastic about Colorado’s commitment to Employment First! In her work, Heather is especially passionate about developing highly competent Employment Support Professionals who approach their work with a historical understanding of disability services and a passion to cause “good trouble” in pursuit of equity and true inclusion for everyone. A person with invisible disabilities, Heather is a recipient of the Association of People Supporting Employment First (APSE) Wendy M. Wood Emerging Leader award and DDRC’s Charlie Allinson award. Heather seeks to move the needle in the day-to-day work that we do with career seekers, and to ask for big change in state and national policies.
