Click to send me a message! "You’ve mentioned how it’s harder for those with kids with autism — what kind of things are harder or different in a neuro-spicy household when it comes to cleaning up?" I got this comment recently, and it really made me stop and think. Because the truth is, it’s not just about cleaning — there are so many hidden challenges in neurodiverse and SEN families that most people never see. This isn’t about complaining. It’s about opening up a conversation — so parents of neurodivergent kids can feel a little less alone, and parents of neurotypical kids can better understand what their friends might be carrying. In this episode, I’m diving into what life really looks like behind the scenes in a neurospicy household — from rigid routines, sensory overwhelm, and picky eating, to emotional letdowns after masking all day, social isolation, extra planning, and the constant mental load that comes with it all. If you’re navigating any of this too, I hope this makes you feel seen. And if you’ve ever wondered what might be going on behind closed doors — I hope it helps you understand. 💬 Know someone who might relate or want to understand more? Click to send me a message! If you're going through the autism assessment process with your child, I see you. Having been through this four times myself, I know just how taxing, stressful, frustrating, and never-ending it can feel. So many parents I’ve spoken to have felt dismissed, judged, and even gaslit at some point during the process. You bring up concerns about your child, only to be met with “They seem fine to me,” or “All kids do that.” Schools, family members, even professionals can leave you doubting yourself, making you wonder if you’re imagining things. I want you to know: you are not alone. This post isn’t just about the practical steps of the assessment process (though I have a whole guide on that if you need it). Instead, I want to focus on what we as parents need to do to stay strong, advocate effectively, and manage the emotional toll that this process can take. We’ll reflect on his childhood, the signs I missed, and the moment he first thought he might be autistic. Together, we’ll discuss the challenging assessment process — from the emotional online meeting to the face-to-face evaluation during COVID — and how he felt then versus how he feels now. Whether you're a parent considering an autism assessment for your child or a teen unsure about taking that step, this episode offers honest insights, personal reflections, and a powerful message: the earlier, the better. Click to send me a message! Trigger Warning: This episode includes discussions about weight gain, weight loss, and emotional eating. This past year, my health hit an all-time low. Between juggling kids, work deadlines, and life’s endless surprises, I completely lost sight of self-care. Exercise was the first thing to go, followed by healthy eating, leaving me stress-eating entire Easter eggs at my desk. Sound familiar? In this episode, I’m sharing the story of how I turned things around—from rearranging my workspace and investing in a walking pad to building small habits that stuck. I’ll dive into how I curbed my sugar cravings, prioritised protein, and even started ADHD medication (spoiler: the weight loss wasn’t because of the meds!). As I head into 2025, I’m carrying these healthy habits with me: staying active, prioritising sleep, making time for joy, and embracing movement I love. If you’re feeling overwhelmed or stuck, this episode is for you. Let’s talk about realistic changes, ditching the all-or-nothing mindset, and finding balance that works for YOU. Click to send me a message! New Year’s resolutions feel so serious , don’t they? They sound like something set in stone — and that’s where the problem starts. Resolutions feel rigid and unforgiving, which doesn’t suit the flexible, creative, ever-changing nature of an ADHD brain. Another issue is that resolutions often focus on big, long-term changes without any immediate pay-off. ADHD brains thrive on dopamine (the feel-good chemical) from small wins, not far-off, long-term rewards. If it’s boring or too far away, our brains just… switch off. That’s why instead of New Year’s resolutions, I recommend focusing on goals instead. Goals are flexible, personal, and — most importantly — achievable. Even better, I like to break my goals down into monthly goals instead of yearly goals. This makes them smaller, more manageable, and gives you 12 fresh starts throughout the year. If you like the idea of monthly goal setting, I’ve created the Organised Year Planner to help you do exactly that. It’s a printable tool where you can break down your big goals into monthly targets, track progress, and celebrate your wins — all in a way that works for an ADHD brain. Maybe you're already bracing for the same old comments like, ‘but they don't look autistic’ or ‘we never had this back in my day.’ If you feel that way, you’re not alone. Click to send me a message! Does your child seem neurodivergent at home but not at school? You're not alone. Many girls with autism mask their symptoms in structured environments like school, leaving parents feeling unsupported and even doubted when pursuing an assessment. In this episode, I respond to a heartfelt message from a listener struggling with this exact challenge. I share my own story, including how my daughter Bella masked her symptoms at school while presenting as neurodivergent at home. I’ll provide practical advice, including: ✨ How to keep a detailed journal of behaviours and incidents. ✨ Using my 100 Signs of Autism PDF to track symptoms. ✨ Navigating conversations with unsupportive schools. ✨ Seeking external professional advice and advocating for your child. This episode is here to remind you: Trust your gut and advocate for your child. Masking is real, and your concerns are valid. 📌 Don’t forget to download my 100 Signs of Autism PDF here - https://mummyoffour.com/100asd 📌 Subscribe for more content like this and send in your own questions for future episodes! Click to send me a message! In today’s episode, I’m diving into the tough reality that so many mums face—being ill and unable to rest. For many of us, a sick day isn’t really an option. The responsibilities don’t stop, and the guilt of taking a break can feel overwhelming. I’ll talk about why mums often feel pressured to keep going, even when they’re unwell, and share real, practical strategies for coping. We’ll explore ways to manage the guilt, take shortcuts, and prioritise what truly matters so you can make it through those challenging days without burning out. Plus, I’ll share tips on asking for help (even if it’s hard), focusing on rest, staying nourished, and why taking shortcuts—like easy meals or skipping deep cleaning—is a form of self-care when you’re unwell. And we’ll end on an important note about setting a healthy example for our kids, so they grow up knowing it’s okay to take care of themselves, too. If you’re a mum who’s ever felt stretched to your limit when sick, this episode is for you. Let’s talk about how to survive these days together.
