Chris Edwards with the Cato Institute says in his recent article, Will Republicans Cut Corporate Welfare?, "President Trump and his DOGE team are busy cutting the federal bureaucracy. Meanwhile, the House Republicans’ recently passed budget resolution targets entitlement programs for savings. So far so good, but we also need action to cut the most wasteful spending of all—corporate welfare. My new Cato study finds $181 billion in annual spending on corporate welfare (a.k.a. business subsidies), including handouts for agriculture, broadband, semiconductors, energy, airports, automobiles, and many other industries." Newell has on Chris Edwards to sort it all out.…

Arab leaders endorsed Egypt’s postwar plan for the Gaza Strip that would allow its roughly 2 million Palestinians to remain, in a counterproposal to U.S. President Donald Trump’s plan to depopulate the territory and redevelop it as a beach destination. The $53 billion plan’s endorsement by Arab leaders at a summit in Cairo amounted to a rejection of Trump’s proposal. The summit conclusions were welcomed by Hamas, rejected by Israel, and given a lukewarm response by the Trump administration. Bruce Jentleson, William Preston Few Professor of Public Policy and Professor of Political Science at Duke University, joins Newell to discuss the developments.…

Last month, the Orleans Parish School Board and the New Orleans City Council stood shoulder to shoulder to announce a resolution to sue the City of New Orleans in Civil District Court, in an attempt to get as much as $90 million of owed money. The school board is also taking the fight to the Louisiana Legislative Auditor, as board member Olin Parker asked district officials to appeal to the state auditor for a review of the city’s tax-collection methods, including how the city remits that money to schools. Is the city REALLY skimming money from city coffers that should be going to parish school children? Newell welcomes in Orleans Parish School Board member, District 3, Olin Parker, to give us the details.…
