'Farm to Table': Wellstar Begins Hydroponic Farming

Wellstar Health System's has begun a new hydroponic farm initiative. WellFarmer Patrick John tends to a vertical hydroponic farm inside a 40-foot shipping container outside Wellstar’s Marietta headquarters. This innovative farm-to-table project reduces waste, with fresh produce like lettuce and herbs harvested weekly and used in Wellstar’s bistros and for catering company events. Executive Chef Michael Fakih appreciates the convenience and freshness, eliminating the need for large orders that often led to waste. With advanced computer systems managing nutrient levels and climate conditions, the farm uses 99% less water than traditional farming. Patrick's efforts, combined with Wellstar's commitment to sustainability, ensure clean, healthy food for their community.
