Jesus asked his disciples, “Why are you troubled? Why do doubts rise in your hearts?” If you feel that Jesus is asking you this today, buckle in because this message is for those of you who are seeking clarity in your lives. The apostles had walked away and had doubts beginning to fill their hearts and minds despite all the things they had witnessed. These are the ones who saw Jesus feed five thousand people with five loaves of bread and two fish. They saw Jesus resurrect Lazarus, and some of them saw him resurrect a little girl. They were the elite ones, yet when the women who were reminded that Jesus told them he would rise again and found his tomb empty, these elite ones called it nonsense. Don’t let the faith you’ve had and the faithfulness of God be exchanged for the idea that it’s nonsense! What brought clarity to the apostles was the presence of the Lord. You have seen God work for others, their marriages, their children, their finances. You’ve seen God move in so many areas, you’ve seen Him do all kinds of miracles for everyone else, and you love to see Him do it. But in your quiet time, in the place where no one else hears you, where no one is looking or peeking over, you ask, “What about me? When will that miracle that I need to happen happen to me?” You feel selfish for thinking it, but it’s still how you feel. “When, God? What about me?” The lepers in 2 Kings 6 had a mindset we should follow: “let’s get up from sitting here and find what is out there for us.” God orchestrated an entire army to flee from the sound of chariots, leaving behind everything for the lepers to find. All of it was there for them to find. They just had to get up and go find it. Monologue: Autumn shares what her and her husband do at the end of each year to check in with each other. Almost every person involved in the Christmas story had been in some point of pressure. For Zachariah, it was his job as a priest. For Mary, it was her betrothal. For Joseph, it was cultural expectations. For the wisemen, it was obedience to a king. But we need to look at what they each decided to do when the Lord gave them a word to guide them and give them direction. Was it to continue in confusion? Was it to let their feelings dictate their actions? Or was it to lay those feelings aside and trust and love God enough to take Him at His word?
