Episode 8: Dignity in Missions
Manage episode 361975549 series 3471053
On today's podcast, we discuss Human Dignity. One of the primary accusations of global missions from the secular world is the "destruction of indigenous cultures." The accusations typically cite unforeseen damages done to indigenous communities because of the lack of care by well-intended missionaries.
In this podcast, we discuss the challenge presented to Western Missionaries who mean to help but sometimes inadvertently create additional pain and suffering among the recipients of their goodwill. We will discuss concepts of Human Dignity and being made in the likeness of God.
We will mention a few resources such as the book, "When Helping Hurts." By Brian Fikkert and Steve Corbett. When we feel called to help those who are in poverty and need, we must be careful to help them without causing additional pain through dependency.
