Hilde Mosse comes from one of the wealthiest families in Berlin and stands to inherit an enormous fortune. But she longs for something more meaningful than the luxurious lifestyle her family provides. So Hilde decides to pursue her dream of becoming a doctor. As the Nazis take power in Germany and the Mosse family is forced to flee, Dr. Hilde Mosse lands in New York having nearly lost everything.. She finds her calling treating the mental health of Black youth – and the symptoms of a racist system. In addition to photographs, school records, and correspondence spanning Hilde Mosse’s entire lifetime, the Mosse Family Collection in the LBI Archives includes the diaries she kept between 1928 and 1934, from the ages of 16-22. Hilde’s papers are just part of the extensive holdings related to the Mosse Family at LBI. Learn more at lbi.org/hilde . We're feeling okay about the pitching, okay about the hitting, and okay with just about everything except the total inability for this team to sweep a series. Just go on a run, dammit! How hard can it be? (very hard)
Incredible: The 2023 season has 170 games in it! It's just still going! Changing nothing has changed nothing! Can the Jays find a way to turn it around in the next .... 155 games?
Surprise! One extra episode is on the way for you. Dan Vogelbach grabbed an Opening Day 40 man slot at the expense of Yosver Zulueta (who we all learned about for no reason!), so I brought in the notorious Spencer to break down an admittedly fairly basic caricature of a Type Of Guy that has always existed in baseball. The Big Sluggin DH. If you're wondering where the Brian Serven episode is: He's a 3rd catcher. They rebuilt his swing a little bit? If he's decent I'll record one next week, ok?…
Bo Bichette has continued to get better over his tenure as a member of the Toronto Blue Jays, adding more and more to his strengths while putting in the work to minimize his weaknesses. MLB dot com's Keegan Matheson joins the final episode of 40 in 30 to talk about the face of the Jays franchise.
After two stellar seasons as the ace of the Blue Jays staff, Kevin Gausman is primed to continue to rise to the level of the game's elite pitchers. Old Reliable Andrew Stoeten stops by to look deeper at the best pitcher in the Jays rotation, and potentially one of the best in franchise history.
We're finally made it out of the wilderness everyone, spring training is over and we've got a season preview on the way. Check out a full episode full of best and worst feelings around individual players, the machinations of the bottom of the roster, and some bold predictions for the season overall.
We've got an extra couple guest episodes around so why not share them! In honour of Jose Berrios being named Opening Day starter The much maligned WhyJays / Mr. Baby / aka White Silk joins the show to take a closer look at La Makina, a model of pitching consistency that had an odd hiccup in 2022 but managed to bounce back to his old self with a stellar 2023. And Yusei Kikuchi pulled his Blue Jays career out of the gutter with an incredible bounce-back 2023 campaign that saw him post career bests in every worthwhile category. Chris Boulding jumps onto the show to analyze the changes that helped Kikuchi climb back out of the bullpen and into the waiting arms of the Blue Jays faithful.…
Anyone who remembers where they were when George Springer joined the Toronto Blue Jays also probably remembers that is was our friend BK live from the barber's chair as the one to break the news. Coming off a slightly disappointing season for Springer, BK takes up the mantle as a Springer Guy to look into the numbers and discover if there is any data lurking that we can pin our hopes to in search of a bounce back in 2024. Alejandro Kirk experienced how quick a narrative can change in 2023, where a previous season's favourite ball of barrels and joy was replaced with a lack of power and some serious trouble adding value on the basepaths. A bat first prospect, he has developed into an excellent defensive catcher, but is the fall off in 2023 too much to bear or is there a sign of life that 2024 can get him back to the line drive producing piece of the puzzle he once was. The infamous GROF, Drew Fairservice joins the show to examine his own accounts of Kirk's progress and maps an outlook for an uncertain future.…
I love Chris Bassitt. This is a guy who represents what pitching is really all about to me. Endless tinkering, a curious mind, big-picture thinking, it's all part of the joy that comes with watching and analyzing Chris Bassitt. Fellow curious mind Jonah Birenbaum joins the show to talk about the Hound on the Mound.…
Here's the thing: Daulton Varsho doesn't have to be that good to be really good. If you're in the mood to get talked into a rejuvenation year for Daulton Varsho in 2024, this is a good podcast to listen to. Chris Black (@DownToBlack) joins the show to look at what happened to cause so much trouble in 2023 and where a small improvement can go a long way to make 2024 the beginning of a great relationship between Toronto and Varsho.…
