Even though God is reluctant to that idea, He still gave them their king, King Saul. It was Samuel, the last judge, who anoints him. After his reign, it was King David who took over and then King Solomon after him. These kings are very famous for their different characters and might. Our Day 7 is our last day and it talks about the invaders of Israel and Judah which led them eventually to their exile to Babylon. It was a miserable and humiliating moments of their lives. The proud 'chosen people of God' became powerless and hopeless until a foreigner, with the command from God, helped the 'Jews' to return to their homeland. But returning to their homeland does not mean they are now free from invaders. While still adjusting from their return, it was the superpower Greeks conquered them and forced them to practice their culture and faith. Many died as martyrs. Today is Day 5 of our lesson about Salvation History and our topic is about the Israelites settling in the Promised Land. It wasn't easy to occupy a place that is already inhabited by people. They need to fight for their land and with the help and guidance of God, all fights that they had were victorious because they had a great leader, Joshua, and a faithful God. But what happened if their great leader died? There was a pattern developed wherein the Israelites when peaceful tend to forget about God and become unfaithful, then they would suffer from the invaders, then they would cry for help, then God would rescue them and call warriors of judges to bring justice in the land, and there would be peace again, and the cycle continues.
