Love God, love people, and change the world. We believe the life and lessons of Jesus aren’t just good advice, but are Good News for us here and now. As a church, we are all about following Jesus and know there’s no end to that journey—we’re more about becoming than arriving. We are committed to becoming a multi-generational, multi-ethnic, multiplying movement of Christ followers, equipping and empowering our kids and students to not only be the church of tomorrow, but the church of today.

For thousands of years people have been asking “Who is God?” God himself describes Himself as the “I AM.” But what did that mean then? And how is it relevant to us now? As we journey through the Lenten season toward the celebration of Easter, we will bring the I AM to life as we reflect on the seven I AM statements declared by Jesus. In doing so, our hope is that you would experience community, grow in your awareness, appreciation and celebration of who Jesus is and what He has done and wants to do for you. Like pain is a warning sign to our body, so emotions are to our soul. Our emotions are more than a feeling for they provide us an opportunity for greater understanding of ourselves and intimacy with God. The Christmas story is much greater than the moment when Jesus was born into the world. It is a story that spans the ages from the beginning to the present and into the future. It is a story of gifts that were intended to be given by our loving God the Father, through His coming Son and by the Spirit so that we could live on earth with a heavenly mindset. The grace of it is that God makes these gifts possible for us in the midst of the mess of our circumstances. Throughout this Advent and Christmas season, we will trace how each gift was declared by God long ago (OT), came through Jesus (Gospels) and is present in our lives today through the Spirit (NT). Our hope is that as we journey together that we will grow in astonishment by what we have been given, while living into it more and more. True faith produces wisdom and fruit. A faith without action and without life change is ultimately a dead faith. The book of James speaks to the realities of a living faith in Jesus—the kind of roll-up-your-sleeves and get-your-hands-dirty discipleship that is borne out of an authentic relationship with the risen Lord. James, the step brother of Jesus, writes to believers who know suffering, who’ve faced trials, and who ultimately desire a deep relationship with God. Compassion & Obedience | Finding The Way | Scott Kirksey | 8.28.2022 "Your Word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path." Psalm 119:105 There may not be a better tribute to the Holy Scriptures than the one that is provided in Psalm 119. Every verse in Psalm 119 exalts the Word of God and the God of the Word. During this 10-week summer series, Finding The Way, we get back to the basics of allowing Scripture to help us grow in gratitude, awe, and dependence on God and His Word. In doing so, we believe it will guide us in the best way we should go in whatever comes our way. This week in Psalm 119:153-168, we focus on how to find the way through the rough places. Each week, our “Be The Bridge” (BTB) series will help us journey toward greater understanding, empathy and, in time, action. This week, we focus on how seeking and extending forgiveness is essential to being a bridge builder.…

Families need to know their words, their love, and their people all impact not just the adults, but the kids too. And those kids become adults. The aim of this series is to empower and resource families to be intentional with their words, their love, and their people — through overlapping lives. Over time, the compounding energies we give to our families are important, beneficial, and critical to the health of each other — our families, our community, and our church.…

The series Together: Responding to His Great Love is foundational to our new beginning at PCC. By studying the 12 springs from the great well of God’s love in the Book of 1 John, our hope is that it would empower us to love ourselves and others more, as we seek His future direction. This week, we focus on how God’s love provides us with warnings.…
We will look at how God's love provides light and forgiveness. 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness... Psalm 51:1-3 Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. For I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me. James 5:16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. In the darkness of confession, one finds the true depth of God's love, for there our souls are cleansed, truth and light are revealed, and relationships restored.…

Habakkuk’s message for God’s people around the world today is that followers of Jesus can, and must, trust in God no matter how tumultuous circumstances may become. However, trusting God is an ongoing process that involves wrestling, waiting, and worshipping Him. This week we focus on what it means to wait on God.…
Special guest speaker Pastor Hurmon Hamilton, Senior Pastor at New Beginnings Community Church, encourages us with four principles from the Gospel of John that will give birth to transforming our relationships with others, alert us to hidden dangers that can undermine conversations about race, and challenge us to make a difference within our sphere of influence.…
Trust the Lord, no matter what. Easier said than done, especially after living through 2020! Coming through, what has been for many, the most challenging year of our lives, the questions arise: Where was God? Where is God when most circumstances seemingly betray his character and what we read of Him in the Scriptures. The prophet Habakkuk has a message for God’s people around the world today. The followers of Jesus can—and must—trust in God, no matter how tumultuous circumstances become. This trust is not easy, as the name of the prophet suggests. Habakkuk means “to embrace, to wrestle”. While most biblical prophets speak to the people on behalf of God, Habakkuk is unique in that the prophet is speaking to God on behalf of the people. Habakkuk is perplexed, because God is planning to use Babylon to punish his own people in Judah, even though Babylon is far more wicked than Judah. The three chapters of this prophecy show Habakkuk wrestling with God in anguish, but ultimately learning to trust in the Lord, no matter what. The vision of God found in the book, the questions it raises, the struggle it brings to our hearts are so needed today. Our own joy is at stake if we miss the message conveyed Habakkuk, as well as being echoed in other parts of Scripture. The message is clear: steadfast joy can be found, in spite of circumstances.…

For those who identify as Christians, “the fruit of the Spirit” is a well-known phrase from a much-loved passage of Scripture. Though it is so well known, its life-altering impact can be lost on many Christians. Tragically, the character of Christ can be obscured through the lives of Christians. Never is this myopia more of a reality than in an election season. The fruit of the Spirit is the character of God, reflected in the lives of those who are united with Christ. It can’t be produced by an outward change of habit nor by a system of self-improvement, but is generated as God works to conform us to the image of His Son. This series culminates our 16-month meta-theme—Kingdom Come—preparing PCC to represent the character of Jesus in our tumultuous times.…

Two thousand years ago, a gathering of people in a middle-eastern city began a movement that would circle the globe and leave its mark on individuals and cultures on every continent. This movement would eventually become known as The Church. Yes, a movement—and it’s still moving today, despite the dark times we are living in. What comes to mind or what do you feel when you hear the word ‘church’? Chances are it is a far cry from what the first church people thought or experienced. They didn’t think about a building, rows, pews, robes, hymnals, bands, or liturgy. They had none of these. And yet, despite having no social or political power, no buildings, nothing that most Christians think of when we think of church, they were a countercultural community that grew in it’s influence. Why? Because in the dark context of the first century Roman Empire, they were radiant! This 3-week series will examine how Jesus transforms individuals, calls them to devote themselves to a community—called the Church. Jesus shows us to what we are to devote ourselves. We are in the final week of our series in the book of 1 Peter. As we identify as exiles in this world, we must trust in the hope of heaven, while bringing the Kingdom of God to earth even when facing spiritual warfare. This week in chapter 5, we focus on the reality of how to handle the evil one.
We are back in 1 Peter for the final three chapters of the book. As we identify as exiles in this world, we must trust in the hope of heaven, while bringing the Kingdom of God to earth. This week in chapter 4, we focus on how to handle suffering from a Kingdom perspective. When you know who you are, you’ll know what to do. Our experience in this world was meant to be foreign—it’s part of what God has planned for His people. The book of 1 Peter will help us identify as an exile, set our hope on Heaven, and become aware of behaviors that we have picked up by living in this world.…

After you listen to the Sunday Easter message, reflect on these questions to integrate what you heard and usher in the hope of Christ as you continue to shelter in place. 1. During these days of shelter in place, what brings you hope? And what causes you to feel hopeless? 2. Read twice through the story of Thomas in John 20:24-29. How can you relate to Thomas? Author Philip Yancey states, "Doubt always coexists with faith, for in the presence of certainty who would need faith at all? God appears far less threatened by doubt than does his church." Remember it is common to ask God to help you with your doubts (see Mark 9:24). How do doubt and faith coexist in your own life? 3. In verses 26-28, what do you find interesting about Jesus’ remarks to Thomas and Thomas’ response to Jesus. What is significant about Thomas referring to Jesus as “my Lord and my God!” What do you call Jesus and why? How could saying this often throughout your day bring you hope? 4. Reflect on verse 29. Knowing that the word “blessed” means to be “fully satisfied” how does that impact your understanding of what Jesus is saying? Who has the opportunity to be blessed? And how do you see it relating to other times (Matthew 5:3-11) when Jesus has used this word? 5. Review John 20:30-31. Why do you think John places the purpose of his writing after this story about Thomas? How has this story brought you more peace, belief, and life? ACTIONS --Make a list of your doubts and declare them to God. Ask Him to give you more faith. --Throughout your day/week declare “You are my Lord and my God!” to bring you hope. --Take A Sacred Walk to care for your soul.…

PCC, we believe that God will enable us to shine brightly, walk in peace, and offer hope to family, church family, our neighbors, and friends. Over these 3 weeks, we focus our Sundays on 5 verses—Philippians 4:4-8—written by the Apostle Paul while he was sheltered in place! That’s putting it lightly! Paul became a Christian as an adult and left the security and popularity of his former career to follow Christ. His new career as an apostle and evangelist had some interesting perks — the job description entailed beatings, being misunderstood, shipwrecks, starvation, mob-like trials, and an unknown physical ailment so painful that he described it as a thorn in his flesh! Finally, Paul was arrested, placed under constant guard of Roman soldiers to whom he was chained…for two years. So he’s sheltered in place, or under house arrest, awaiting a verdict that carried with it a death sentence. He wrote several letters during this time—we call Prison Epistles—Philippians is one of them. What’s amazing is that this letter drips with joy (occurring 16 times) and peace because it drips with Jesus (occurring 36 times) In Philippians 4, Paul talks about learning a secret and his wanting us to learn it as well. Listen, our times on these 3 Sundays will be like a lozenger—not going wide, because I want us to go deep. These 5 verses we walk through, over the span of this series, will empower us to walk The Path to Peace: Finding Calm in Chaos.…

Teaching text: 1 Peter 5:7 We say all the time at PCC that circles are better than rows—this is our opportunity to experience and apply this reality outside of our church’s physical walls. Through April 5, we are encouraging PCC to continue to come together–in our homes–by watching online. We will be providing specially-designed online church gatherings each Sunday, during this time. We encourage you to think of us moving to a house-church model, like Christ-followers did in Acts 2. This smaller clustering of church family actually fosters growth, because we can interact more intimately around the Word.…

King David's story reveals a very human hero full of flaws, yet called “a man after God’s own heart.” He has long inspired people who wonder, as David often did, “How can I find lasting strength to face my challenges? Where is God when my life seems terrible? How do I handle my self-doubt? Why does God seem to be saying no to my dream?” This fall, we're retracing the actual steps of David in Israel to better understand the truth behind his life. We'll not only understand David better - we'll learn truths about ourselves and God, and find new courage for our own life battles.…

On August 14, 1951 in a peninsula living room, 22 people prayed and asked God for a church that would “go to the people,” sharing the Gospel in a new and fresh way. They envisioned a church that would not settle to simply open its doors and wait for people to come to them. For the next four weeks in a series we're calling Reboot, we'll look back and refresh our 2025 vision, and look forward in faith at what our city needs most from us: living into the mission to empower the generations to passionately follow Christ, one home at a time. Gary kicks it off this Sunday with the first of four priorities we are inviting every person who calls PCC home to live into: the priorities of Gather, Grow, Give, Go - what we're calling G4 Discipleship.…

In our summer series Face to Face, we're eavesdropping on divine encounters when people came face to face with Jesus, so we can in turn treat every face we face with the love and compassion of Jesus. This Sunday, Garrett Brown speaks from John 5:1-18 - the story of the man at the Pool of Bethesda - and we discover that no one is invisible to Jesus, or beyond His grace. Garrett Brown is a Peninsula local who spent over twenty years in pastoral ministry. Currently he serves as the Director of Christian Union at Stanford University, a campus ministry focused on developing Christian leaders at the nation’s most influential schools. Garrett and his wife Susan have three kids, and live in Redwood City.…
In our summer series Face to Face, we're taking a look at ordinary people who had divine encounters when they came face-to-face with Jesus. As we eavesdrop on these encounters, we hope that in coming face to face with Jesus, we will in turn treat every face we face with the love and compassion of Jesus. Gary continues our series this Sunday in all gatherings as we look at Mary Magdalene's encounter with Jesus' grace.…
Our view of God is the most important thing about us. It shapes how we feel about God and the values and priorities we have in interacting with others. The best way to get to know God is by looking at the One He sent—Jesus. In coming face to face with Jesus, we will in turn treat every face we face with the love and compassion of Jesus, knowing that every person is loved by God, bears God’s image, and would be accepted by God if they repented and received God’s gift of eternal life through Jesus. You won’t want to miss any of the messages in our summer series Face to Face, as we take a look at everyday encounters of ordinary people who had divine encounters when they came face-to-face with Jesus. Gary kicks it off in all four gatherings this Sunday!…

Experience the joy, hope and awe that Mary Magdalene did when she, the first to see our risen Lord, discovered that He was alive! This Easter we can think about this one fact: On the third day after Jesus died, in spite of His constant forecasting of a resurrection, nobody expected NO BODY to be in the tomb! His coming to life changed everything for His first followers and can do the same for us today! Has it been too long since you have been overwhelmed?…

In a self-indulgent age such as ours, any fasting is to be commended. 40 Days of Decrease is the pursuit of a different kind of fast creating a different kind of hunger. Instead of fasting chocolate, social media, or artisan coffee, 40 Days will call PCC to fast apathy, injustice, resentment, and more together in the pursuit of God. We are joined this Sunday by Laurie Polich Short as we continue our journey of decrease, so that God can increase.…

This season, we are going to encourage you to get in a circle, join a group and learn how to go further and farther in your walk with Jesus … by going on that journey with one another.…

Everybody loves a good story. Stories can capture our imagination and give us a new perspective on life. Perhaps the greatest storyteller in history was Jesus himself. In fact, the Bible shows that storytelling was Jesus’ favorite technique when speaking to the crowd: “Jesus spoke all these things to the crowd in parables; he did not say anything to them without using a parable” (Matthew 13:34.) Jesus often took the most profound lessons of life and wrapped them in simple stories everyone could understand, only to bring an unexpected twist to the story so no one would forget. This week we’ll hear about the parable of the sower in Matthew 13:1-23.…

This Easter at PCC we celebrate the greatest comeback story ever told! May the hope of Easter, history’s greatest comeback, be our hope everyday as followers of Jesus.
Twelve weeks. One book. Countless stories. Since January, we've been journeying through the story of Nehemiah, the Israelites, the building of a wall, and the opposition they experienced, from without and from within. And we've seen over and over again how our God is the One who restores, rebuilds, and renews - and invites us into that journey with Him. What awareness have you gained through Nehemiah? How have you been inspired by others who are living this out? This Sunday, we gather for final lessons learned from the book of Nehemiah and reflect together as we remember Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday.…
With two weeks left in our Nehemiah series, we're coming to the end of the book and seeing that building a wall was easier than building hearts and a community. This week, we'll dive into Nehemiah chapter 13 and see more fully how we can guard against drifting from our heart relationship with Jesus: through God's power, not our will power.…
What do you do when you come to an understanding that you're not where you want to be spiritually? This Sunday, we'll dive back into Nehemiah 9 and 10 and see how the people of God can experience revival in our own hearts, based not on our own empty will power, but on Jesus' resurrection power.
What do you do when you come to an understanding that you're not where you want to be spiritually? That's exactly where we find the community in Nehemiah chapter 8 - and their response was the first recorded revival in all the Bible. This weekend, we'll continue in our journey through Nehemiah and look at the indispensable elements of spiritual renewal.…
A city is more than walls, buildings and houses; a city is people. And the people are Nehemiah’s focus in chapter 7, which we'll see as we continue in our series and jump into chapter 7 this week. And it's time for our annual PCC-CPC pulpit swap! Gary heads over to preach at Central Peninsula Church, while CPC's lead pastor Mark Mitchell will be speaking.…

As we continue in our series this week, we'll dive into Nehemiah 6 and see how Nehemiah resisted quitting when the going got tough.…
Let's recap: The walls are down. Nehemiah goes to Jerusalem and organizes the people to begin rebuilding. But he finds that challenges come not only from outside the walls, but within. This week we look at what God has to show us through Nehemiah about rebuilding from the inside out.
As we seek to partner with God in restoration, we need each other! What's your section of the wall? How are you experiencing a "dislocated" heart for where you live, where you work, where you learn, where you play, and where He sends you? We're continuing in our series this weekend looking at the opposition that inevitably comes when we move into spiritual restoration, rebuilding, and renewal.…
Restoring is God's business! As we partner with Him in restoration, the journey involves both waiting and work. Nehemiah knew he couldn't do the work of rebuilding the wall alone - it would take a team. As we continue in our series, we're opening up Nehemiah 2 and looking at the key principles of God-honoring teams - and how we can be prepared to bless as we restore.…

Dark days create a great backdrop for God’s intervention. Jesus came in an unexpected way during one of the darkest times in history. But what seemed like an interruption – a small child in a small town in Galilee – was actually the source of the greatest hope of the world. This Sunday, we’ll look at how the example of the shepherds can change how we receive and respond to the Good News of Jesus’ birth. (Luke 2:8-18).…

But what seemed like an interruption – a small child in a small town in Galilee – was actually the source of the greatest hope of the world. What hinders hope in your life? In challenging times, there is something that transcends time and circumstances, something that pulls us through: hope! Listen this Sunday as we kick off the Advent season and our series called Christmas Hope.
How can we live significantly, from God's perspective? This is the final Sunday in our series Questions Jesus Asked, and we hope you've been encouraged and challenged these past 8 weeks by the questions of Jesus. This weekend, we'll look at a final question: "What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?"…
When was the last time you had a "DTR" - a conversation to "define the relationship" with someone? That may remind you of awkward dating interactions - but did you know that Jesus wants to define our relationship with Him, too? There are two Sundays left in our series Questions Jesus Asked, and this week we'll hear Jesus ask: "Why do you call me Lord, Lord and do not do what I say?"…
Contrary to popular opinion, Jesus is not the ultimate “Answer Man.” The Gospels record that Jesus asked many more questions than He answered. Jesus’ questions have something to tell us about Him and His life, and more importantly, our response tells us something about what it means to follow him. This week, we will study how Jesus teaches that God can use anything we offer to Him. Mark 6:34-44…
When you think about true greatness, what - or who - comes to mind? As we continue in our series Questions Jesus Asked, we'll dive into Mark 9 and the question Jesus asked his disciples: "What are you arguing about?"
Have you ever labeled someone? Have you ever been labeled? In Luke 7, we encounter a woman who's been labeled for a long time - and we hear Jesus' response to her, and to those who've labeled her: "Do you see this woman?" Listen as we continue our journey through Questions Jesus Asked.

So he sat in the boat and taught the crowds from there. 4 When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Now go out where it is deeper, and let down your nets to catch some fish.” 5 “Master,” Simon replied, “we worked hard all last night and didn’t catch a thing. Jesus replied to Simon, “Don’t be afraid! From now on you’ll be fishing for people!” 11 And as soon as they landed, they left everything and followed Jesus.…
