Have you heard?! Craft Beer Republic collaborated with 14 Cannons on a Coffee Kölsch along with California Coffee Republic! For Batch 295, Greg set up with head brewer Nic Bortolin at the brewery for a live show and release party.
Everyone in attendance had the Podcast Flight which included Patient Pilsner, California Coffee Republic Nitro Cold Brew, Morning Watch Coffee Kölsch, and Wreck Yo Ship TIPA. Nic led everyone on a guided tasting as he talked about the various ingredients, brewing process, tasting notes, and all-around beer nerdiness.
The duo also talked a bit about 14 Cannons beginnings and leading up to now, 4 ½ years later. What led up to the collaboration, and the really fun coffee nerdiness that everyone got into on the day of the brew day. Will brough multiple coffees to sample alongside the ingredients of the beer, and based on the hops being used, an Ethiopian blend was used. Nic also talks about the process of brewing a coffee to put on tap at a brewery.
Greg gets Nic to talk about what annoys him when it comes to taproom shenanigans. He also discusses the process of making Wreck Yo Ship, hopping during and after fermentation, what that does to the beer, and how it can cause your fermenter to explode.
Everything gets wrapped up with a round of rapid-fire questions where we find out Nic’s first beer, beer & food pairings, favorite local beers, and his favorite word for being drunk. The crowd chimes in with their favorite drunk words as well.
A huge thank you to Nic and 14 Cannons for not only allowing us to collab on a beer, but also be the host of our first live show since the pandemic started. It felt so good to drink with real people!
