Jacob lived in the light. “28 And Jacob lived in the land of Egypt seventeen years; so the days of Jacob, the years of his life, were a hundred and forty-seven years.” (Genesis 47:28 RSV) The light didn’t come from Egypt because Egypt was a land filled with darkness. The light came from Jacob because he lived his life in the light. The light came from within because of his unwavering commitment to God and Torah.
