Hilde Mosse comes from one of the wealthiest families in Berlin and stands to inherit an enormous fortune. But she longs for something more meaningful than the luxurious lifestyle her family provides. So Hilde decides to pursue her dream of becoming a doctor. As the Nazis take power in Germany and the Mosse family is forced to flee, Dr. Hilde Mosse lands in New York having nearly lost everything.. She finds her calling treating the mental health of Black youth – and the symptoms of a racist system. In addition to photographs, school records, and correspondence spanning Hilde Mosse’s entire lifetime, the Mosse Family Collection in the LBI Archives includes the diaries she kept between 1928 and 1934, from the ages of 16-22. Hilde’s papers are just part of the extensive holdings related to the Mosse Family at LBI. Learn more at lbi.org/hilde . Well, this one was a challenge. I wasn't sure I'd be able to podcast about "Welcome Back Kotter". But sure enough, it turned out to be a pretty fun podcast. Join us today as we travel back in time to TV in the 1970s!
From the blockbuster team of Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale comes another of the "Marvel Knights Colors" series. This series examines the relationship Cap had with his sidekick Bucky, and how his "death" affected Cap. It's a great read and a perfect Comic Book of the Day!
Love him or hate him, there's one thing you can't deny, and that's Frank Miller's talent. Guy's got a knack for writing great comics and I'll leave it up to you to decide if this one qualifies. I have my opinion, of course, and today we'll discuss Frank Miller's 1983 epic, "Ronin".
Today we're looking at Charlton Comics. Founded in 1945 and publishing comics well into the 1980s they were an enormously successful publisher (and distributor!) who were responsible for launching the careers of some of the GOATs!
To celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the Caped Crusader, it's 100 pages of Batman! Seven harrowing tales from the best of the Batman including an all time Joker classic from the 70s that RE-introduced the Joker as the homicidal maniac that we know and love!
The late, great Dave Stevens is featured on today's podcast with a terrific issue of Comico's Rocketeer Adventure Magazine! We'll look back on a really wonderful time in comics when we take a trip back to the 80s!
It's Brave and Bold time on the comic book of the day, and this time Batman's teaming up with his arch-nemesis, Joker! How can this be? What circumstances could POSSIBLY lead to this? Tune in to find out!
Reprinting the classic Batman stories of the early 70s on high quality baxter paper, this series, printed in the late 80s was a great collection of the creative powerhouse that was Denny O'Neil and Neal Adams. These are some of the best stories of the Dark Knight Detective and introduced us to perhaps his greatest foe.…
Superman helps America celebrate 200 years of independence in this classic treasury sized reprint of Tomahawk stories from 1976 with a beautiful front AND BACK cover to help celebrate our nation's birth!
Today we jump on the Dark Horse Comics bandwagon! We're talking about a somewhat obscure sci-fi comic from the early 90s, "Virus". It's a fun little romp and creepy story. If you're a fan of "The Thing" or other examples of that "sci-fi-horror" genre, then this might be right up your alley!
Hunter Rose vs Bruce Wayne... Batman vs Grendel! It's the conflict of the century... well... it's the conflict of the 90s at least. Today's Comic Book of the Day is Batman/Grendel: Devil's Riddle from DC and Comico. A Matt Wagner classic!
It's the sixth and final issue of Darwyn Cooke's groundbreaking work, "DC: The New Frontier" on today's Comic Book of the Day Podcast. This particular book is the conclusion to one of my all time favorite comic book stories.
It's the ten best comic stories of 1980... in DIGEST format! Superman, Batman, Deadman, Jonah Hex, Sgt. Rock, The Legion of Super Heroes... they're all here, just shrunk a little. Grab your Slurpee and a handful of Tootsie Rolls and follow along!
