Nazeri Bin Lajim, who was convicted of trafficking heroin more than a decade ago, was hanged last Friday as Singapore continues to enforce its strict death penalty regime. This week, we caught up with Coconuts Singapore’s Carolyn Teo, who sat down with Nazeri’s sister prior to his execution for a deeply heart wrenching feature story.

Coconuts Bangkok’s Pasavat “Nicky” Tanskul is in the co-host chair in Sam’s stead this week, and he gave the lowdown on fresh confusion surrounding Thailand’s budding legal cannabis scene after a new government order instructed police to arrest anyone selling weed without “permission.” Tune in!

Other stories include:

Citayam Fashion Week: Social Agency ‘ready’ to round up trans women, crossdressing men | Ravichandran becomes first Malaysian to conquer K2 mountain, despite disability | Going at the red light: Foreigner on motorbike filmed urinating at Sanur intersection | The Metropolitan Museum of Manila is closed for now — but will reopen with new art spaces in BGC | Hong Kong restaurant’s ingenious takeaway BBQ bento with built-in grill garners raves from Japan

WTF is up in Southeast Asia + Hong Kong delivers impactful, weird, and wonderful reporting by our journalists on the ground in eight cities: Singapore, Bangkok, Hong Kong, Manila, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Yangon, and Bali. Listen to headline news on matters large and small, designed for people located in – or curious about – Southeast Asia and Hong Kong.
