In this lesson we will practice two more vowel sounds.

First /ʊ/, the sound in words like

And then the sound /u:/ in words like

  2. I would like to buy a wool jacket.
  3. Take a look at this hook.
  4. Please put the wood over there.
  5. The soldier stood at attention.
  6. She should have come earlier.

Part Two: Now let’s practice with the /u:/ sound.

  2. The goose got loose.
  3. A hammer is a tool. A saw is too.
  4. You never see the moon at noon.
  5. Please come home soon.

Over the years linguists have created an international phonetic alphabet (IPA) to help them record the sounds of the world's languages. Yesterday I found this wonderful interactive chart for the American English IPA and I wanted to share the link with you.
