Children as young as nine years old have made violent threats against schools following the deadly Oxford High School shooting. The number of copycats has alarmed Michigan Authorities and has caused tremendous disruption to several Detroit-area high schools. About 18 youth have been charged with school threats in Wayne County. How safe are children in schools, and how can we discourage students from making threatening calls? Journalist Khalil Hachem discussed the topic with Dr. Scott Poland, Dr. Glenn Maleyko and Ken Trump. Trump is President of National School Safety and Security Services, who directed a new study of school threats across the country. Dr. Poland is a professor of psychology at the College of Psychology and the Director of the Suicide and Violence Prevention Office at NSU Florida in Fort Lauderdale, FL. He is internationally recognized expert in school violence and school psychology, and the former president of the National Association of School Psychologists. Dr. Maleyko is the Dearborn Schools District Superintendent. The episode was broadcast: 17/12/2021 US Arab Radio can be heard on wnzk 690 AM, WDMV 700 AM, and WPAT 930 AM.
