There's no doubt about it - most leaders will easily admit to avoiding having to give feedback, particularly the empathic ones!
Done well, the learner takes a step forward and performance improves. Done poorly (or avoided altogether) and the reverse happens.
So how do we give feedback in a way that INSPIRES and motivates higher performance, rather than de-motivates?
A team of psychologists from Stanford, Yale, Columbia, and elsewhere recently set out to explore that question.
Their research showed the 3 pillars you need to get right when delivering feedback if you want it to work - even better if you want it to boost performance by 40%!
And I have summarised these into a handy-dandy little acronym for you too - I call it the "I3Bs" to make it easier to remember.
I also hope that by listening to this episode, your relationship with feedback will change, and you might even... dare I say it... look forward to it! *gasp*
Enjoy!
