Mr. Kevin Strickland left the Western Missouri Correctional Center after staying more than 40 years. He had been 18 years old when he went to prison and his first prosecution stumbled with a hung jury, but a panel convicted him of three murders in 1979 despite no physical evidence tied him to the crime. An eyewitness later recanted her testimony. Strickland, now 62, was convicted in the 1978 shooting deaths of one person 20,one 21, and the third person was 23. They were all killed on April 25, 1978. "It was not just a village, but a movement to bring him home," said Tricia Bushnell, the director of the Midwest Innocence Project. She confirmed that Strickland is back with his love ones after being ripped away from his life and family. Retired Missouri Judge ordered that Strickland be immediately released because his conviction should be overturned because it was not based on physical evidence but only on the since-recanted eyewitness's testimony. He was given $750,000.
