La Fonda is Santa Fe's Oldest Historic Hotel

According to historical records, La Fonda Hotel began at its landmark location on the Santa Fe Plaza as the Exchange Hotel in 1821 soon after Capt. William Becknell completed the first successful trading expedition from Missouri to Santa Fe, officially opening the Santa Fe Trail.
