Indra and Deana talk with Karishma Patel, the first Indian contestant to appear on the popular reality TV show ‘Survivor’ on ABC. Karishma walks us through her entire experience being on the show, including the application process, the details of the bizarre final casting experience (that you’ve never heard before!), her experience as the odd person out throughout the season, her last-minute vote for the winner, and the lingering aftermath. Karishma discusses the ways in which the experience changes people (often for the worse) and how it can affect their judgment in not-so-flattering ways, including during the notorious #metoo scandal that shrouded the entire season. She also talks about what it was like being a South Asian-American on the show, some of the unfair ways her story was portrayed by producers, and the future of multiculturalism on the show. And she talks about her work as a personal injury lawyer, including the details you never knew about the infamous McDonald’s hot coffee lawsuit from the 90s!
