Responding to the climate change challenge will require a multifaceted approach from regulators across industries. To examine the nuanced coordination needed to create sustained impact, the Brookings Center on Regulations and Markets brought together three leading researchers studying climate-related regulations across a variety of settings.

Each researcher provided an overview of recent research insights within their field of expertise. Simone Borghesi, director of the Florence School of Regulation – Climate at the European University Institute, brought lessons from the European Union on emission trading schemes; Meredith Fowlie, professor at the University of California, Berkeley, shared insights from her work on the regulation of electricity markets; and Johannes Stroebel, David S. Loeb professor of finance at New York University’s Stern School of Business, brought his perspective on climate risk in financial markets. The presentations were followed by a Q&A session moderated by Sanjay Patnaik, fellow and director of the Center on Regulation and Markets.
