Valentine’s Day. The very time when Harry Warden sharpens up his pickaxe for a little bloody mayhem. Any self respecting horror fan knows that we here at Sounds Scary are talking about the classic slasher flick, George Mihalka’s My Bloody Valentine (1981) – as well as the terrific remake from Patrick Lussier in 2009. The creepy tale of a miner gone mad is currently getting a little bit of a resurgence, courtesy of a man of many talents by the name of Anthony Masi. This producer, creator, director, and man of many other skills has given us a treat that would even make Harry smile. The My Bloody Valentine board game. And Ryan Cultrera and James “JimmyO” Oster were invited to this year’s Valentine’s Day party at the legendary Dark Delicacies in Burbank, California. We not only had the chance to talk about this addictive new game, we also spoke with the incredible Helene Udy and Rob Stein, who played Sylvia and John in the cult classic original film. The two were an utter joy to chat with. And finally, we spoke to yet another talented fellow. In case you can’t get enough of MBV, we spoke with author Armando Muñoz about his novelization of that love letter to a day devoted to hearts and cupid… and Harry. We at Sounds Scary wish you a very SCARY Valentine’s Day. You should celebrate it with an amazing board game, an awesome book, and get that classic movie playing until you hear that spooky tune, “The Ballad of Harry Warden.” Make sure to hit up https://www.stopthekiller.com/ to learn more! @stopthekiller …

SMALL TALK & BIG KITCHENS, our mini-series on the romcoms of Nora Ephron and Nancy Meyers, continues with the movie that became the then-most successful film ever directed by a woman. After her divorce from Charles, Meyers was eager to make her next film independently of her ex-husband. When the opportunity came along to rewrite a script about a man who gains the power to hear everything women are thinking, Nancy wrote two drafts before agreeing to direct. Starring Mel Gibson and Helen Hunt, WHAT WOMEN WANT was a box office juggernaut, grossing nearly $400mil when it was release in 2000’s holiday season, cementing Nancy Meyers as one of the biggest directors in Hollywood. Join Nick & Scott as they mourn the loss of the specific kind of movie star that could make a movie like this work, while still raising an eyebrow at certain story choices (especially that abrupt ending!)
