Prashant Pitti in conversation with Asish Mohapatra is the Co-Founder and Head of Sales at OfBusiness since August 2015.
Previously, Asish was a Senior Associate in Mumbai at Matrix Management Corporation from October 2010 to August 2015. At Matrix, Asish aimed to build on his healthcare and operations experience to help entrepreneurs build their business. Apart from work Asish
kept himself alive with a plethora of hobbies ranging from indulging in sporting records to maintaining collections to creative writing.
Asish started this journey as a Maintenance Manager, and subsequently an Operations Manager, in ITC after completing his B. Tech at IIT Kharagpur. As the Operations Manager Asish managed a team of a thousand people in the demanding plant environment. During this stint he led the turnaround of a factory that grew to ~5X its size in operations and manpower within a year. Asish's experience at ITC taught him that knowledge and an understanding of details is pivotal to being a great manager and leader of people.
Post his MBA at the Indian School of Business, Asish joined McKinsey & Company. While consulting is known to offer diversity across sectors, Asish chose to focus on the healthcare sector as he believed that the sector was in its nascence and was going to be a crucial element in India’s rapid global growth. Asish has spent bulk of his time at McKinsey in serving MNCs and domestic Indian companies in pharmaceuticals, medical equipments and pharma support services. Asish has also worked in the public sector with large bilateral donors and the Ministry of Health. Asish has built a diverse and deep expertise in healthcare at both the corporate and the grassroots levels.
Asish earned his MBA in Finance and Marketing from Indian School of Business, Hyderabad and a B. Tech degree in Mechanical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur.
